Softball Splits at Andrew College

In the first of four road dates during spring break, BRCC split a doubleheader against Andrew College on Tuesday afternoon.

Andrew College handed Baton Rouge a 6-5 loss in game one. The game was tied 3-3 after seven innings and BRCC was able to score two runs in the top of the eighth. Courtney Edwards scored from second base when Virginia Cacioppo led off the inning with a double. A Megan Smith single scored Cacioppo and BRCC led 5-3 needing three more outs to secure the victory. Unfortunately, Andrew College rallied to score three runs and take the first game of the twinbill.

BRCC trailed 4-0 early in the second game. Baton Rouge could not muster the timely hits that would score runs until the sixth inning. Alyssa Bush started the inning with a double to left center. After a single by Virginia Cacioppo, Courtney Edwards came in to pinch hit and lined a double to centerfield that scored Bush. Next, Megan Smith came to the plate and hit another double which scored two more runs. Alexis Groce slapped a ball through the infield enabling BRCC to add a fourth run that tied the game.

The Lady Bears bats stayed hot in the seventh inning by adding four more run. BRCC would eventually win game two 8-5.
