BRCC Earns Sweep at Jeff Davis

The Lady Bears traveled to Brewon, Alabama for a doubleheader on Saturday, Feburary 27th. BRCC swept Jefferson Davis Community College by scores of 9-2 and 11-2. The two wins improved the Lady Bears record to 9-14, quite the turnaround after beginning the season 1-9.

Morgan Berry began the scoring for BRCC by beginning the game with a single. After stealing second base, Berry would score when Virginia Cacioppo single to left giving the Lady Bears a 1-0 lead.

Baton Rouge would cross the plate again in the fourth inning after Royell Cobb walked. A Katherine Cognevich single would put runners on the corners. Cobb would eventually score by a sacrifice fly by Michala Hughes

BRCC would add seven runs in the sixth inning to secure a 9-2 victory.

In game two, Baton Rouge jumped all over the home team in the first inning. By scoring six runs, the Lady Bears put th egame out of reach and would eventually win 11-2.

Bear Notes:

  • Game one pitcher, Alyssa Bush, gave up five hits, struck out five and only had one walk in the victory.
  • Hughes finished game one with 3 RBI's. She also went 2 for 4 with two more RBI's in game two. 
  • Courtney Edwards went 2 for 3 with an RBI in game two.
  • Kassi Rojas was the winning pitcher in game two. 

BRCC is back home on Tuesday, March 1st. The Lady Bears will host Faulkner State Community College for a doubleheader at Live Oak High School. First pitch is set for 2:00 pm.
