Lady Bears Take Game 2 of Doubleheader at Meridian

Baton Rouge softball split a doubleheader with Meridian Community College on Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Bears squandered a lead in game one before eventually falling to the home town Eagles 6-5. Game two saw an offensive explosion from Baton Rouge. Coach Neel's squad won going away 17-4.

The Lady Bears started off strong in the first. Megan Smith began the rally with a single. Later in the inning, BRCC added back to back singles by Taylor Toledano and Virginia Cacioppo. Cacioppo's single was able to advance Smith across the plate which gave the Bears the lead 1 - 0. With runners at first and second, Royell Cobb ripped a homerun over the left field fence giving the Lady Bears an early 4-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Cobb started another rally with a double to left. Michala Hughes, with a double of her own, traded places with Cobb and the Lady Bears lead was 5-3.

However, BRCC would fall short in the bottom of the 7th when Meridian scored to end the game 6-5. Cobb finished the game with a 3-run home run and a double, going 3 for 4.

Following the game one loss, the Lady Bears came out clawing in the second game. In the top of the second inning Toledano starts the inning off with a single to right. Cobb, who has been on fire, snags another hit to left. With no outs, Cacioppo rips a homerun over the left field fence giving BRCC a 3-0 lead.

Ultimately, Meridian answered back in the bottom of the third with four runs of their own. The Eagles took a 4-3 lead into the fifth inning.

In the final three innings there was no stopping the Lady Bears. BRCC plated fourteen runs, ending the game with a 17 - 4 final score. Toledano was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears and Cacioppo finished game two going 4 - 4 with a homerun.

Wednesday's doubleheader with Pearl River has been postponed to a later date. BRCC is traveling to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend two participate in a two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday.
