Ellisville, MS : Men's Basketball 

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Ellisville, Mississippi, this evening, to take on the Jones College Bobcats, in the Quarterfinals of the Region XXIII tournament. The Bobcats would take a lead late in the second half that they would not relinquish enroute to the 80 to 75 victory over the Bears.

The first eight minutes of the first half was a back and forth affair between the two ball clubs. Each team was trying to feel each other out on both ends of the floor. In that time period the game would see three ties and six lead changes.  After the game was tied at 16 with 12:25 remaining the Bears would go on a 7-2 run to take a 5 point lead with 10:50 remaining. The Bobcats would tie the game at 28 with 7 minutes remaining.  The game would be tied again at 30 with 6:33 remaining. The Bobcats would then go on a 19 to 10 run to take a nine point halftime lead; 49-40. 

In the first ten minutes of the second half the Bears would go on an 18-8 run to take a 58 to 57 lead over the Bobcats. Jarrell Love would make two free throws, with 12:50 remaining to give the Bears a one point lead ;58-57. During the Bears run, the Bears increased their defensive pressure limiting the Bobcats opportnuties from the three point arc. The game would be tied at 60 with 11:23 remaining then it would go back and forth for the next two minutes. The Bobcats would take a slim one point lead with 8:15 remaining 65-64.  That would be as close as the Bears would get as the Bobcats would close out the game on a 15-11 run to secure the 80 to 75 Region XXIII quarterfinal victory .

Tyrael- Cage Heke led the Bears with 18 points. The Bears had three student athletes score in double figures. Dimp Pernell led the Bobcats with 22 points. The Bobcats had four student athletes score in double figures.

Bears Game Highlights:

Tyrael- Cage Heke led the Bears with 18 points and 2 rebounds.

Courtney McCarthy added 16 points with 7 rebounds.

Jarrell Love scored 13 points with 9 rebounds.

With the loss the Bears finished the season with a 14-13 record, in Coach Byron Starks first season at the helm of the Bears Basketball program.
