Baton Rouge, LA: Men's Basketball

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Delgado Dolphins met this afternoon, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center, in a key LCCAC matchup. These two teams opened LCCAC play on January 31 when Delgado would get the victory over Baton Rouge in New Orleans. This time the Baton Rouge Bears would  come out with the hard fought 70 to 58 victory over the Delgado Dolphins. With the win, the Bears and Dolphins share the conference lead.

The Bears would jump out to a quick 12-0 lead over the Dolphins with 14 minutes remaining in the first half. The Dolphins would rally and pull within two ; 24-22 with 5:10 to play in the half. The Bears would take a 36 to 32 lead heading into halftime.

The second half belonged to the Bears as they would increase their lead to 13 points with ten minutes to play; 53-40. The Bears would outscore the Dolphins 34 to 26, in the second half, enroute to the 70 to 58 conference victory.

In the game, the Bears were crispy on the offensive end and had great defensive pressure forcing the Dolphins into quick possession and limiting their possession on the offensive end. The Bears followed the game plan that Head Coach Byron Starks had established which now puts them in a first place tie with the Dolphins, in LCCAC play, with three games remaining.

The Bears were led in scoring by Courtney McCarthy with 12 points. The Dolphins were led in scoring by D. Riley with 16 points.

 

Bears Highlights

Courtney McCarthy led the Bears with 12 points.

Corey Pope and Jaylen Streeter both scored 11 a piece .

Dashaunte Cormier-Bellard added 8 points.

 

With the victory the Bears improved to 11-11, 2-1 while the Dolphins fell to 8-15, 2-1 on the season. Baton Rouge leads the over all time series with 29 wins and 15 losses over Delgado.

The Bears will travel to Pineville, Louisiana this Tuesday February 13, 2024 to take on the Louisiana Christian University JV team at 6 pm.
