Tuesday January 9, 2024: Men's Basketball

The Baton Rouge Bears would travel to Ellisville, Mississippi to take on the Jones College Bobcats, for just the second time in program history, Tuesday evening. The Bobcats would come out of the gates on fire as they would cruise to the 87 to 63 victory tonight, in the A.B. Howard Gymnasium.

The Bears would take an early 5-4 lead with 17:20 to go in the first half before the Bobcats would go on a 24-6 run to take the lead for good.  At the half, the Bobcats led the Bears 51 to 28.

In the second half, the Bears would forge a comeback, but it was not enough as the Bobcats would defeat the Bears 87 to 63. The Bobcats would outscore the Bears 36 to 35, in the second half.

Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Laron Louis Jr with 12 points. Dimp Pernell led Jones College in scoring with 21 points. The Bobcats had 4 student athletes score in double figures.

With the loss the Bears fell to 7-10, while the Bobcats improved to 12-3 on the season. Jones College leads the overall series with 2 wins over Baton Rouge.

Bears Highlights:

Laron Louis Jr. led the Bears with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

Corey Pope added 10 points.

Courtney McCarthy scored 9 points with 3 rebounds.

The Bears will play at home on Thursday January 18, 2024, against the Bishop State Wildcats at 7:30 in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
