Bears defeat Baton Rouge Post Grad after break

The Baton Rouge Bears squared off, this afternoon, against the Baton Rouge Basketball Post Grad Academy, in the Bears Den. The Bears were trying to knock off some holiday dust after a two week layoff for the Christmas holidays. The Bears would defeat Baton Rouge Post Grad by the final score of 98 to 47.

The Bears would jump out to the early 11 to 2 lead with 15:47 remaining in the first half. The Bears were very aggressive, in the opening minutes, on the defensive end forcing BRBPGA into multiple turnovers that led to transition buckets. The first half saw numerous Bears contribute and play solid minutes. At the half the Bears led BRBPGA 49 to 22.

The second half started a bit sluggish for the Bears as the Baton Rouge Post Grad would force the Bears into multiple turnovers. Baton Rouge Post Grad would open the half on a mini 8 to 4 run as they would take advantage of the Bears turnovers. The Bears would eventually settle down on the offensive end and get their full court pressure working, in the second half, as the Bears would outscore Baton Rouge Post Grad 49 to 25.  It was a complete team effort as the Bears would get 48 points from their bench, this afternoon, as they would defeat the Baton Rouge Basketball Post Grad Academy 98 to 47.

The Bears were led in scoring by Kialen Phillips with a game high 21 points.  Baton Rouge Post Grad was led in scoring by  Torrey Caswell Jr. with 9 points. The Bears had five student athletes score in double figures.

With the victory the Bears improve to 7-8 on the season.

 The 51 point victory over Baton Rouge Basketball Post Grad Academy is the largest margin of victory at home for the Bears. The Bears previous home largest margin of victory was 48 (89-41) against Spring Hill JV on January 20, 2017.

 

Bears Highlights:

Kialen Phillips led all Bears with 21 points.

Jarrell Love added 16 points.

Courtney McCarthy scored 13 points.

Jack King and Jace Patin each had 11 points.

 

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday January 6, 2024 as they travel to Poplarville, Mississippi to take on Pearl River at 4 pm in the Marvin R White Coliseum.
