Bears fall to Bulldogs in Goodman

The Baton Rouge Bears closed out the first half of the season with a road trip to Goodman, Mississippi to face the Holmes Community College Bulldogs, this afternoon, in the Frank Branch Coliseum. The Holmes Bulldogs would defeat the Baton Rouge Bears by the final score of 57 to 51.

The first half was a low scoring sluggish game between the Bears and the Bulldogs. Holmes would take their biggest lead of the first half, twelve points with 6:55 remaining. The Bears would claw back and close the gap to only trail by five points, at the half; 25 to 20.

The Bears would open the second half on a 13-5 run to take a three-point lead 33-30 with 15:34 remaining in the second half. The game would be tied at 36 with 10:14 remaining. The Bulldogs would go on a mini 9-2 run over the next three minutes to take a 45-38 lead over the Bears. The Bears would pull within four points down the stretch but that would be as close as they would get as the Holmes Bulldogs would come away with the 57 to 51 victory.

With the loss the Bears fell to 6-8, while the Bulldogs improved to 10-2 on the season. Holmes leads the overall series record with 17 wins and 2 losses.

The Bears were led in scoring by Kialen Phillips with 17 points, while the Bulldogs were led in scoring by Cameron Wallace with 17 points.

Bears Highlights:

Kialen Phillips led all Bears with 17 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

Jaylen Streeter added 11 points with 5 rebounds.

Laron Louis Jr and Corey Pope both scored 6 points.

 

The Bears will take some time off for the Christmas Holiday. They will return to action on Saturday January 6, 2024 at Pearl River Community College.
