Tonight was the first ever meeting between the Baton Rouge Bears and the John Melvin University Millers. The game was defined by a series of runs and momentum shifts. Baton Rouge would push ahead late in the first half, and they would use that momentum to fuel their dominate second half performance to capture the 85 to 66 victory, this evening in the Bears Den.

The first half was a game of runs between the two ball clubs. Baton Rouge would jump out to a quick 6-0 lead, in the first three minutes of the ball game. John Melvin would go on a 9-5 run to tie the game at 11, with 12:54 left in the half. The Bears would claw ahead with a 11-2 run to take a 22-13 lead with 10:39 left in the half. During this run, the Bears would use a full court press to force the Millers into multiple turnovers that would turn into transition points for the Bears. The Millers would not go away as they would fight back to tie the game at 25 with 4:24 left in the half. The Bears would finally push the momentum their way as they would close out the half on a 16-5 run to take a 41 to 30 halftime lead. The last run was fueled by Laron Louis Jr., Imran Deen, Jaiden Lee, and Rayniel Wright.

The second half was all Bears. Baton Rouge would outscore John Melvin 44 to 36 to secure the 85 to 66 victory.

The Bears were led in scoring by Jaiden Lee with 16 points. The Millers were led in scoring by Jake Berber with 17 points.

The Bears improve to 4-6 while the Millers fall to 0-10 on the season.

Jaiden Lee led all Bears with 16 points.

Jarrell Love added 14 points.

Jaylen Streeter scored 9 points.

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday December 2, 2023, as they travel to Summit, Mississippi to take on the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears at 2 pm.
