East Central Warriors come from behind to defeat Baton Rouge Bears

East Central Warriors pull off a come from behind victory to defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 68 to 60, this evening in the Bracken-Wood Gymnasium.

The Baton Rouge Bears used an aggressive full court press to keep the East Central Warriors out of sync on the offensive end for the first ten minutes of the half. The Bears would come out the gates hot on the offensive end outscoring the Warriors 13-0 with 16:29 left, in the first half.  Over the next six minutes, the Bears would extend their lead to seventeen with a 13 to 9 run; 26-9. East Central would find their stride on the offensive end as they would go on a 17-1 run to pull within one with 4:17 to go, in the first half; 27-26. At the half, the Bears led the Warriors 32 to 27.

The first five minutes of the second half was a back and forth battle between the two ball clubs. The game would be tied at 39 with 15:20 left to play. East Central would take their first lead of the ball game with a jumper by F. Bensalah 41-39 with 14:36 .  The Bears and the Warriors would go back and forth which each team trading buckets and  the lead for the next  eight minutes.  The Warriors would finish the final six minutes, on a 15 to 8 run to take the 68 to 60 victory. The Warriors outscored the Bears 41 to 28 in the second half.

Reginald Stoner Jr. led the Bears with 14 points. Connor Rogers led the Warriors with a game high 22 points.

The Bears fall to 2-4, while the Warriors improve to 2-3 on the season. East Central also takes a 2-1 series lead over Baton Rouge.

 

Bears Highlights:

Reginald Stoner Jr led the Bears with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals

Jaylen Streeter added 12 points, 1 assist and 4 steals

Arzika Seibou scored 9 points with 2 rebounds, and 1 assist.

 

The Bears will play the Holmes Community College Bulldogs, at home in the Bears Den, on Saturday November 18, 2023 at 4 pm.
