Bears Fall at Bishop State

Bears Fall at Bishop State

Monday November 6, 2023: Men's Basketball

Mobile, AL

A slow start dooms the Bears, in Alabama, as they fall to the Bishop State Wildcats 60 to 53, this evening in the Fredericka G Evans Cultural Center.

In the first half, the Bears could not find their stride on the offensive end of the floor. The Bishop State Wildcats would use an aggressive defensive performance to force the Bears, into multiple turnovers, which led to easy buckets on their end. The Wildcats would close the first half on a 12-2 run, to give them the 34 to 12 ; first half lead over the Bears.

At the half, Head Coach Byron Starks encouraged his team to continue to fight and chip away at the Wildcats' lead.  He expressed the need for more passion and aggressiveness on both ends of the floor.

In the second half, the Wildcats would extend their lead to 23, the largest of the game with 16:26, left in the half. Over the next five minutes the Bears would find some success on the offensive end of the floor as they would go on a 16-4 run to pull within eleven: 44-33 with 10:22 left in the half.  The Bears would continue to chip away at the Wildcats lead and bring it within five points with a Kialen Phillips bucket with 1:53 to go in the half; 55-50.  Unfortunately, for the Bears that would be the closest they would get as they would fall to the Wildcats 60-53.

The Bears outscored the Wildcats 41 to 26 in the second half.

Reginald Stoner Jr led the Bears with 14 points while Bishop State's Kedar Bodie led the Wildcats with a game high 26 points.

Baton Rouge falls to 1-2, while Bishop State improves to 2-0 on the season.
