Bears open the season with a Win !

The Baton Rouge Bears opened the new era of Bears Basketball, Wednesday night in the Bears Den, with an 81 to 56 victory over the Hinds Community College Bulldogs.

In the first few minutes of the game, both teams were trying to find their rhythm on the floor. Imran Deen scored the first point of the season when he made 1 of 2 free throws with 17.22 left, in the half. The Bears would slowly find their rhythm on the offensive end as they would go on a 27-7 run during a nine-minute time span to take their largest lead of the first half, twenty-one points. With 8:11 to go in the first half, the Bears led the Bulldogs 30 to 9. The Bulldogs would go on a mini run of their own to outscore the Bears 13-5 to close within thirteen, with two minutes remaining, in the half.  At the half, the Bears led the Bulldogs 37 to 24.

In the second half, the Bulldogs came out of the locker room with a bit of fire that fueled a 13 to 4 Bulldogs run, in the opening six minutes of the half, to pull within nine points, 41-32. The Bears and the Bulldogs would trade baskets till the eight-minute mark of the game when the score was Bears 55 Hinds 47. The Bears would close out the game on a 26-9 run, which was fueled by consistent defensive pressure that forced turnovers which led to easy buckets on the offensive end of the floor.  The Baton Rouge Bears will defeat the Hinds Bulldogs 81 to 56, tonight in their season opener.

The Bears were led in scoring by Reginald Stoner Jr and Jaiden Lee who each had 18 points. The Hinds Bulldogs were led in scoring by J. Dupree with 15 points.

This was the seventh meeting between the two ball clubs on the hardwood. With the victory the Bears hold the series record with 4 wins, while Hinds has 3 wins.

With the victory the Bears improved to 1-0 while the Bulldogs fall to 0-1 on the season.

Side note: During Halftime Baton Rouge Community College recognized Our Lady of the Lake Health for their continued support of the growth of Health care in the Baton Rouge Region.

Bears Highlights

Reginald Stoner Jr and Jaiden Lee led the Bears with 18 points.

Jarrell Love added 11 points.

Corey Pope chipped in 8 points.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Friday November 3, 2023, as they travel to Wesson Mississippi to take on the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves at 6 pm in the Grayson L Mullen Gymnasium.
