Bears drop season finale to Southern Shreveport

Baton Rouge Bears would fight till the end, but it was not enough as the Southern Shreveport Port City Jags would defeat the Bears 89 to 82 tonight in the Bears Den.

The game was a back and forth affair for the first ten minutes of the first half.  In that span the game saw three ties and five lead changes.  Both teams would go on mini runs that would be countered by the other team.  With two minutes to play in the half, the Port City Jags held a 10-point lead, 44 to 34.  The Bears would finish out the half on a 6-0 run to pull within four points; 44 to 40.

In the second half the Port City Jags would build their lead up to 10 points.  The Bears would chip away at the Jag's s lead, but it was not enough as they would fall tonight 89 to 82 to close out the 2019-2020 season.

Southern Shreveport was led in scoring by Black who scored a game high 24 points. The Port City Jags had 4 student athletes score in double figures. Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Ronald Pugh II who scored 23 points. The Bears had 3 student athletes score in double digits.

The Bears finish the 2019-2020 season with a record of 6-21, 1-8 in LCCAC play.

Bears Highlights:

Ronald Pugh II led the Bears with 23 points

Brenden Vessel added 13 points in his final game as a Bear

Jamal Hayward added 11 points

 

Before the game the Bears honored three sophomores for their commitment and contribution to the Bears Basketball program over the pass two years.  Those sophomores included, Baton Rouge area guard Brenden Vessel and New Orleans natives, Guard Javon Brazile and Forward Prince Campbell.
