Bears Dominate Disciples

Bears Dominate Disciples

Tuesday January 14, 2019: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

The Baton Rouge Bears jumped out to an early lead that they would not relinquish on their way to the 100 to 60 victory, this evening in the Bears Den, over the Louisiana Christian Post Grad Disciples.

The Bears held an early six-point lead; 12-6 after five minutes of play. The Bears largest lead of the first half would be 19 points with four minutes to play.  At the half, the Bears led 42 to 27.  In the first half, the Bears did some things well but also had some things they needed to work on in the second half.  For the most part the Bears were aggressive on the offensive end and active on the defensive end forcing the Disciples into some bad shots and turnovers.  Still the Bears needed to play with more passion and continue to execute the game plan on both ends of the floor.

At the half, Head Coach Don Green challenged his men to limit the turnovers, control the boards and play with more passion and aggression.  The Bears would start the second half on a 24-2 run to extend their lead to 64 to 29 with 12:31 left to play. The Bear's defensive intensity picked up, which kept the Disciples out of sync on the offensive end. Baton Rouge would get some solid playing minutes from freshman Jamal Hayward and Nicholas Porter Jr.

The Bears were led in scoring by sophomore forward Prince Campbell and freshman center Jamal Hayward who each scored 20 points.  Louisiana Christian was led by Xavier Smith who scored 16 points. The Bears had five athlete score in double figures.

With the victory the Bears improve to 5-13 on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Prince Campbell and Jamal Hayward each scored 20 points to lead the Bears

The Bears will be back in action next Wednesday January 22 as they travel to Eunice to start conference play against LSUE at 7:30 pm in the HPRE Center.
