It was a wild night of basketball tonight between the Baton Rouge Bears and Oakleaf Post Grad. The game was decided in the last seconds, as Oakleaf Post Grad would invade the Bears Den and leave with the 85 to 84 victory.
Each team traded buckets for the first ten minutes of the first half. The game was tied twice, in that time span. Over the next six minutes, Oak Leaf turned up their half court pressure which led to some turnover for the Bears. Oakleaf capitalized on those turnovers and some hot perimeter shooting to go on a 16 to 6 run to take a 31 to 24 lead with 4:32 left to play. The Bears would not fold, as they would go on a 13-6 run of their own over the next four minutes to tie the game at 37 with 1:11 left to play. Oakleaf would hit a bucket at the end of the half to take a 39 to 37, lead into halftime.
The second half saw 5 ties and 8 lead changes between the two teams. The Bears scored the first five points of the second half to regain the lead at 42 to 40. The teams would trade buckets and the lead over the next ten minutes. Oakleaf would build their lead up to nine points, 71 to 62 with 7:52 left to play. The Bears would then go on a 19 to 9 run over the next six minutes to take an 81 to 80 lead with 1:32 to play. The run was fueled by some increased defensive pressure and the hot shooting touch of Ronald Pugh II and Prince Campbell. Baton Rouge would take an 84 to 81 advantage with 35.1 seconds left to play. Oak Leaf would score two to close the gap within one at 84 to 83 with 18.2 seconds left to play. Baton Rouge then had trouble handling the ball in the backcourt as Oakleaf would steal the ball and get fouled sending them to the line with a chance to take the lead. Oakleaf hit both free throws to give them a 85 to 84 lead. Baton Rouge had a chance to win the game but a last second shot by Trenton Payne was no good and Oakleaf Post Grad would escape the Bears den with the 85 to 84 victory.
Oakleaf was led in scoring by Jeremy Richard who scored 28 points. Oak Leaf had 5 players score in double figures on the night. The Bears were led in scoring by sophomore forward Prince Campbell who scored 22 points.
With the loss the Bears fall to 4-13 on the season.

Javon Brazile, DeAntray Hughes, Spencer Mays and Trenton Payne each had 9 points
The Bears will be back in action this Tuesday January 14 as they take on Louisiana Christian Post Grad at 6 pm in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.
