Bears fall to Bulldogs

Bears fall to Bulldogs

Thursday December 5, 2019: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

Tonight's contest between the Holmes Bulldogs and the Baton Rouge Bears was a rematch from the November 21st game played in Mississippi, where the Holmes Bulldogs defeated the Baton Rouge Bears 77 to 66.  This contest was like the previous one where the Bears struggled on the offensive end and struggled defensively to contain Holmes' offensive production.

Like the Lady Bulldogs earlier in the evening, the Bulldogs would score the first six points of the game. The Bears would get on the board with a two pointer by Jamal Hayward with 15:44 remaining in the half. Holmes would push their lead to nine, their largest in the first half, with 2:56 left.   The Bears would get a spark from their bench, in particular,  Ronald Pugh II and Darren Johnson.  They would forge a comeback to bring the Bears within four at the half; 35 to 31.

In the second half the Bears would pull within one point; 44 to 43 on a free throw by Darren Johnson with 13.:33 remaining.   Unfortunately, this would be the closest the Bears would get all night as the Bulldogs would increase their lead to 11 with 2 minutes to play.  Holmes would not look back as they would take  the 75-68 victory tonight in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.

Holmes Bulldogs had three student athletes in double figures. They were led by Higgins with 27.  Baton Rouge had four student athletes in double figures. They were led by Ronald Pugh II and Spencer Mays, who each had 16 points.

With the victory the Holmes Bulldogs improve to 5-3, while Baton Rouge Bears fall to 2-10 on the season.
