Bears lose hard fought game to #10 Pearl River

The #10 ranked Pearl River Wildcats invaded the Bears Den tonight for a region 23 match up with your Baton Rouge Bears. The game came down to wire with the Wildcats escaping with the 80 to 86 victory.  Baton Rouge was not intimidated by the ranking of the Wildcats as they jumped out of the gates on fire building a quick 7 points lead; 10 to 3 with 16:39 to play in the first.  The Bears were paced by the hot shooting hand of Ronald Pugh II, as he scored the Bears first 14 points of the game.  The Wildcats would rebound and tie the game at 19 with 9:06. Over the last eight minutes of the first quarter, the game saw 10 lead changes and one tie.  The Wildcats hit a three at the buzzer, to end the first half, with a 40 to 32 lead over the Bears heading into intermission.

Pearl River would grow their lead to seven points, in the second half, but Baton Rouge would not lay down as they would take the 60 to 61 lead on a Spencer Mays jumper with 8:04 to play.  The Bears would go on a 15 to 9 run over the next 6 minutes to build a seven-point lead with two minutes to play. Baton Rouge would then have their issues with time management and unforced turnovers, as the #10 ranked Wildcats would tie the game at 76 with 1:27 left. Pearl River would close out the game on a 10 to 4 run to take the 86 to 80 victory tonight in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.

Pearl River was led by Tae Hardy who scored 30 points, Kelvin Allen with 28 points and Roderick Brown with 18 points. Ronald Pugh II paced the Bears with 27 points.

Pearl River improves to 3-0 while Baton Rouge falls to 1-4 on the year.

Brenden Vessel added 14 points

Spencer Mays scored 11 points

 

The Bears will be back in action this Friday November 15 as they travel to Port Arthur, Texas to take on Lamar Port Arthur in a 7 pm contest.
