Baton Rouge, LA – Donald Green has been named Head Men's Basketball Coach at Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC), the school announced today.  Green, who served as Interim Head Coach for the past year, brings 25 years of head coaching experience and over 600 total wins to the Bears as well as a background as a career educator.

"Donald Green is one of the most successful high school coaches in Louisiana history, with championships and titles on various levels," said BRCC Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement Philip L. Smith, Jr.

"He's done a great job recruiting and managing the team. After our search, we felt he was the right man for the job," Smith added.

In Green's interim season he was named Co-Coach of the year and led the Bears to a co-conference championship. Green and his staff have produced a talented recruiting class that features 7'0" and 6'8" post players, five wing players, all with great leaping ability, and six crafty guards that bring a combination of ball handling, scoring and defense to the Bears.

The recruits will join three lettermen, all with significant playing time last season, for what should be an exciting 2019/20 season.

"I can't put into words how excited I am to be the head Men's Basketball Coach at Baton Rouge Community College," Green said.  "We've got a great atmosphere here created by Mr. Smith. Everybody is on the same page and we're all striving for the same results."

Green actually began coaching before playing college basketball. He founded, organized and coached a championship intramural men's basketball team at LSU and knew he'd found his calling. A year later he walked on and played for legendary LSU Coach Dale Brown in 1982 and soaked up as much knowledge as he could from his college coaches.

After graduating from LSU with a degree in criminal justice in 1983, he began coaching high school basketball with stops at Cornerstone Academy, Millerville Academy, and Bethany Christian School (all Baton Rouge area schools). While at Bethany he won numerous regional and state titles for both boy's and girl's teams as well as three National Christian School titles.

Green then moved on to Parkview Baptist School in Baton Rouge and eventually coached both boy's and girl's teams to previously unforeseen levels of success. After serving as principal of his alma mater, Carroll High Magnet School in Monroe, he went on to serve as the principal and Head Boy's Basketball Coach at Desire Street Academy and Capitol Academy in Baton Rouge before landing back at Parkview in the same dual role.

During his second term at Parkview, his teams captured two district titles, four straight playoff appearances, and one semi-final appearance.  He became the girl's team coach after two years back at the school and led them to two consecutive playoff appearances.

Green received his Masters' degree from Southern University in Administration and Supervision and is presently completing his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Southeastern University and is set to graduate in 2019.  Green has been married to Marie Gilmore Green for 34 years.  They have three children and one grandchild together.
