Vessel paces Bears for key conference win

The Bears pick up a huge conference win, this afternoon, behind the hot shooting day of freshman guard Brenden Vessel. Baton Rouge defeats Delgado by the final score of 83 to 69.

Early in the first half it was a battle, with the game being tied three times. Baton Rouge would build an eleven point lead behind the hot three point shooting by Brenden Vessel, with six minutes to play in the half. Delgado would make a late first half push to close the gap to 48 to 36 at the half.  Brenden Vessel had 20 of the Bears 48 first half points. In the second half, the Bears kept their foot on the gas pedal and withstood the few Dolphins runs to take the 83 to 69 victory.  

The Bears shot 71 % from the free throw line, 62 % from the three point line and 45% from the field for the game.

Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Brenden Vessel with 28 points, while Delgado was paced by Kai Morgan with 19 points.

With the win, the Bears improve to 7-15 and hold a 5-3 conference lead. Delgado falls to 6-16 and 4-4 in conference play.

Bears Highlights:

Brenden Vessel led all Bears with 28 points, 7-8 from the 3 point line

Terrance Dodson added 16 points, and 14 rebounds

Eric Matthews scored 13 points and 14 rebounds

Caleb Hebert added 10 points and 6 assists.

 

The Bears will travel to Shreveport on Wednesday February 27 to take on the Southern Shreveport Jags in a very important LCCAC conference match up. Game starts at 7 pm.
