Bears Basketball Late Rally Falls Short

A late rally by the Baton Rouge Bears falls short as they are defeated by the Delgado Dolphins 92-90; this afternoon in the Bonne Sante Wellness.

The first half was a back and forth contest for the first sixteen minutes. In that time span the game was tied twice. The Delgado Dolphins found their stroke from the perimeter the last four minutes of the half as they outscored the Bears 15-5; to end the half with a seventeen point halftime lead. At the half, the score was Delgado 50 and Baton Rouge 33. The Bears free throw woes returned as they missed ten free throws in the first half.

In the second half, the Dolphins picked up where they left off, extending their lead to 23 points at 72-49 with 10 minutes to play. Baton Rouge would  rally in the final minute when Eric Matthews would score nine points, in the final thirty seconds, to pull the Bears within two but the Dolphins would step up to the line and make their free throws to seal the two point victory, 92-90. 

Baton Rouge was 12 for 26 from the free throw line. Delgado was 26 for 39 from the free throw line 

Delgado Dolphins were led in scoring by Louis Bates with 23, while Terrance Dodson had a game high 29 points to pace the Bears.

With the win, the Dolphins improve to  5-12, 1-1 in conference play, while the Bears fall to 2-14, 0-2 in conference play.

Bears Highlights:

Terrance Dodson led all Bears with 29 points

Eric Matthews scored 22, with 9 points coming in final minute of the game

Terry Johnson added 19 points

 

The Bears will be back in action Wednesday February 6 as they travel to Shreveport to take on LCCAC conference opponent Southern Shreveport at 7:00 pm.
