Bears lose conference opener to LSUE

Wednesday January 30, 2019: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

The BRCC Bears basketball team opened conference play tonight against first year LCCAC member LSUE Bengals.  It was a tale of two different halves for the Bears. In the first half, the Bears hung around and made a game of it, but in the second half the Bears struggled to find their offense while the Bengals were firing on all cylinders.  The final score was LSUE 78 and BRCC 61.

BRCC jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead over the Bengals. But both teams struggled, in the first couple minutes, with some sloppy play on both ends of the floor. LSUE would take a 32-25 lead into the break.  After the break, a different looking Bengals team took the floor.  LSUE went on a 21-1 run over, the first eight minutes of the half, to build a 27 point lead that they would not relinquish. BRCC could not get their offense in sync, throughout the second half, and their free throw woes returned. BRCC fought till the end but the deficient was too big to overcome.

Baton Rouge was 13 for 21 from the free throw line, while LSUE was 17 for 21.

LSUE was led in scoring by Brennan Maddox with a game high 27 points. Terrance Dodson led the BRCC Bears with 17 points.

With the win, LSUE moves to 11-10, 1-0 in conference, while Baton Rouge falls to 2-13, 0-1 in conference,  on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Terrance Dodson led all Bears in scoring with 17. He had 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Eric Matthews added 12 points with 2 assists and 3 steals.

Brenden Vessel scored 10 points.

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 2 at 4 pm as they take on conference opponent the Delgado Dolphins in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC Midcity Campus.
