BRCC Bears fall to Southwest Mississippi

The Southwest Mississippi Bears defeat the Baton Rouge Bears, this afternoon, by a final score of 81 to 69.

The first half was a close match up between the two Bears squads.  The lead changed hands five times, with Southwest holding a one point advantage at 34 to 33, at the half.  In the second half,  the Bears from Mississippi jumped out early, scoring the first eight points  to take a 42 to 33 lead over BRCC. Baton Rouge fought back with a 12-4 run to close the gap to 57-52 with 7:24 left to go, in the game.  That would be as close as the Baton Rouge Bears would get as Southwest would go on a 18-5, during the next five minutes, to take a commanding lead that they would not relinquish.

A bright spot for the BRCC Bears is they finally found their stroke from the free throw line making 14 of 20 shots.

Southwest was led in scoring by Damian Dear and Atticus Taylor who both scored 17 points. Brenden Vessel led the BRCC Bears with 18 points. 

With the win, Southwest moves to 8-1, while Baton Rouge falls to 1-12 on the season.

Bears Highlights:

Brenden Vessel led all Bears in scoring with 18.

Terrance Dodson scored 15 points.

Prince Campbell added 12 points.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Tuesday January 8 at 4 pm as they travel to Fulton, Mississippi to take on Itawamba Indians.
