Baton Rouge falls to No.20 Pearl River

Baton Rouge falls to No.20 Pearl River

November 27, 2018: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge, LA

A second half surge by No.20 Pearl River helped them defeat Baton Rouge 86 to 69, tonight in the Bonne Santé Wellness Center.

Baton Rouge came out aggressive on both ends of the floor, in the first half, to take a 13 to 5 lead with 14 minutes left. The Bears stepped up their defensive intensity forcing the Wildcats to struggle offensively. The Bears found their groove on offense, that they had been lacking, in the previous games. Late in the half, Pearl River  turned up their pressure forcing the Bears into some unforced turnovers that led to some easy buckets for the Wildcat. It was a back and forth game for the final five minutes, of the half. The game was tied four times during that time frame. Pearl River eventually took a one point lead late, to led 38 to 37 at the break.

At the half, Coach Green was pleased with the way his guys handled Pearl River's pressure and their ability to rebound and run their offensive game plan.

The second half was a different story for the Bears. Pearl River came out with fire and passion and dominated the first five minutes to go on a 15 to 6 run that would put the game away.  The Bears could not rebound from the deficient thus falling 86 to 69 to No. 20 nationally ranked Pearl River Wildcats.

Pearl River improves to 7-0, while Baton Rouge falls to 1-6 on the season.

Pearl River was led in scoring by Jonas James III with 16 points. Baton Rouge was led in scoring by Brenden Vessel with 16 points.

Bears Highlights:
