Bears lose season opener to Bossier Parish

Bears fall, in overtime, to Bossier Parish Cavaliers 98 to 87, in their season opener. In the first half, the Bears and the Cavs traded buckets for the first five minutes. Then the Cavs went on a 6-0 run to take a 12 to 6 lead over the Bears.  The Bears struggled to find their offense over the next nine minutes, as the, Cavs extended their lead to 31 to 22, with a 19-13 run. BRCC finished the half strong, with four consecutive baskets,  to take a 39 to 38 lead heading into the break. Terrance Dodson led the Bears in the first half with ten points . Jason Holliday lead the Cavs with 16 first half points .

 

In the second half, the Bears and the Cavs traded leads.  The game was tied five times. The largest lead was five  by the Cavs with 9:23 to play. BRCC had the lead with 20.7 seconds left at 78 to  76. The Cavs stole the inbound pass and scored a layup to tie the game at 78 thus forcing overtime. 

 

BRCC played the overtime short handed as four Bears had fouled out the game. In overtime, the Cavs pulled away as Erie Olonade scored seven straight point for BPCC, to take a 94 to 83 lead over the Bears. The Bears did not have an answer as they fall 98 to 87, in overtime, to the Cavs .

 

BRCC shot 66% from the free throw line, missing 8 free throws. They also shot 39% from the field. 

 

Bears Highlights:

Brenden Vessel led all Bears with 21 points, 2 rebounds and 3 assists 

Eric Matthews scored 15 points, with 6 rebounds and 1 steal

Nigel Jones added 12 points , 3 rebounds and 1 block

 

The Bears will be back in action this Wednesday November 7 at 6 pm, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center, as they face region 23 opponent Mississippi Gulf Coast. This will be the home opener for the Bears so come out and support these young men. Admission is $5.00
