BRCC Bears Basketball claims the Louisiana Community College Athletic Conference regular season crown with a 77 to 56 victory, this evening against Southern Shreveport. The Bears came out with sluggish start and trailed the Jags early 16 to 12, with 12:04 left in the first half.  Southern-Shreveport then went on a 6-0 run to grab a 22 to 12 advantage, with eight minutes left. During the next six minutes, the Bears came out blazing  on a 15 to 4 run of their own to take a one point lead 27 to 26, with 2 minutes left to play.  The Jags would not go down and tied the score at 31. Halftime score was all knotted up at 31.  At halftime, Coach Wilson challenged his guys to follow the game plan and pump up the defense.  His guys did just that.  Over the first ten minutes of the second half, the Bears held the Jags to only eight points.  In that ten minute span the Bears went on a 19 to 8 run to take a 50 to 39 lead.  The Bears continued to play aggressive defense and let their offense just happen. BRCC's big men struggled a bit tonight but their guard play was outstanding and picked up the slack.  Makye Richard led the Bears guard with 21 points. BRCC shot 70 % from the field compared to 58% by Southern Shreveport.

The Bears pick up a huge win and will advance to the Region 23 tournament next week at Mississippi College.

On a side note: Before the game the Bears honored Sophomore student athletes Jibreel Ahmad and Dominique Elliot for all their hard work and dedication to the Men's basketball program over the past two years.  This was the last home game for both these outstanding young men.

Baton Rouge improves to a record of  12-11 and 4-2 in conference play.

Bears Highlights: 

Terrance Dodson led the Bears with 22 points and 7 rebounds.

Makye Richard scored 21 points with 6 rebounds, 3 assist and 2 steals.

Dominique Elliot added 13 points and 4 rebounds.
