Bears earn a Huge Conference Win

Saturday February 24, 2018: Men's Basketball

Baton Rouge,LA

BRCC earned a hard fought victory, this afternoon, versus conference opponent Delgado Community College  72 to 64.  It was a dog fight between two top contenders, with each team trading punches but the Bears would come out on top in a much needed victory to keep their championship hopes alive.  Baton Rouge's largest lead of the first half was six points at the 7:29 mark. The halftime score was Bears 34 and Dolphins 29.  Coach Wilson went in at halftime and challenged his squad to come out and play with more intensity on the defensive end and their offense would continue to develop.  His squad came out with a bit more fire but the Delgado Dolphins hung around and did not let the Bears pull away.  With 9:18 left in the second half the Bears only had a one point lead at 54 to 53.  At about the five minute mark,  with both teams in foul trouble, the Bears finally pulled away taking a seven point lead.

Baton Rouge shot 62% from the field compared to 56% by Delgado.  For the second straight game, BRCC struggled from the free throw line only shooting 50 % while Delgado shot 80 % from the line. Baton Rouge got everyone involved in the game dishing out 23 assist.

Bears improve their season record to 11-11 , 3-2 in conference play. Baton Rouge is currently in a tie with Southern Shreveport for the conference title.  Wednesday's  evening game versus Southern Shreveport will determine the winner of the conference.
