EMCC Lions used a second half run to beat BRCC Bears 73 to 55

It was a tail of two halves, here Saturday in Scooba, Mississippi.  In the first half, the Bears and the EMCC Lions went back and forth with offensive runs and defensive stops.  BRCC used their defensive presence to keep EMCC off balance on the offensive end in the first half. EMCC shot 8 for 30 (27%) from the field, in the first half, which included 4 for 18 from the 3 point line.  The game was tied 3 times in the first half and EMCC Lions held the biggest led of 9 points.  It was a tail of runs, with the game tied at 11, EMCC went on a 12 to 3 run to extend their led to 23 to 14 over the Bears, with 8:44 remaining in the first half.  It was then the Bears time to go on a run of their own, in which, they outscored the Lions 11 to 3 to close out the first half.  The halftime score was EMCC Lions 26 and BRCC Bears 25.

The second half continued where the first half left over.  It was a back and forth affair until the 8:30 mark of the second half, when EMCC took control of the game.  BRCC's Makye Richard stole the ball and drove to the basket and his shot was blocked, then EMCC stole the inbound pass and converted on a lay-up of their own.  EMCC went on a 18-0 run to break the game open.  Early in the second half, the Bears had their chances but missed lay-ups and missed free throws doomed the Bears. BRCC shot 1 for 8 from the free throw line, while EMCC shot 14 for 17 from the charity stripe.  EMCC also got hot from the 3 point line in the second half and the Bears did not have any answers. EMCC shot 15 for 29 (52%) which included 9 for 17 from the 3 point line.

Final score was EMCC Lions 73 and BRCC Bears 55. The Lions improve their season record to 6- 2, while the Bears fall to 4 and 7 on the year.

Bears Highlights: 

Donald Williams Jr. led the Bears in scoring with 17 points on 5 for 7 from the 3 point line.  DJ also had 2 assist and 3 rebounds.

Makye Richard scored 13 points, which included 3 for 8 from the 3 point line.  Mayke had 3 assist, 3 rebounds and 2 steals

 

The Bears will take a break for the Christmas Holidays.  They will begin practice, at the end of December, to get ready for their January 4, 2018 contest at Mississippi Delta Community College.
