2017-2018 Bears Basketball Schedule

Baton Rouge,LA-   The  2017-2018  basketball season will be the sixth year for Ricky Wilson to be at the helm.  Like his counterpart, Coach Lee, he returns with  a very young squad with only 3 returning players from last years squad.  Coach Wilson says" although our team is young we will make up for the youth with hard work and execution."  The Bears are currently working hard everyday to improve their fundamentals and conditioning, to get ready to play in this years tough non-conference schedule.

The Bears open their season on the road with four scrimmages.  They will travel to Dallas, Texas to showcase their young talent at the Juco Jamboree on October 6th and 7th. The road scrimmages continue with stops in New Orleans to take on Xavier University on October 14th and in Alexandria to take part in the LSUA Scrimmage on October 21st.  The quest for a championship officially begins at home in the friendly confines of the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on November 1 against LSUA JV team.  The Bears will remain home for another contest against Bossier Parish community College on November 4th, before hitting the road  for three games, in which,  two will be against Region 23 opponents.  They will play Holmes Community College on November 9th, then travel to play in the Southwest Tournament against powerhouses Chipola and Southwest Mississippi. The Bears will also take part in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic in Perkinston ,MS on November 20 and 21st.  BRCC will finish their fall semester with games at home versus Holmes Community College and Cy-Fair College and an away game at Last Chance U     (East Mississippi Community College) in Scooba,MS on December 11, 2017.

After the Christmas break, the bears return to face a pair of Region 23 opponents in Mississippi Delta on January 4, and  Mississippi Gulf Coast on January 8. The non-conference schedule will conclude with games against four NAIA junior varsity teams. (William Carey, LSUA, Spring Hill, and Mobile College).

With a mixture of tough Region 23 opponents, the BRCC Bears should be prepared to start conference play on February 3, 2018 at Delgado.  Coach Wilson says" the tough non conference schedule should help prepare our young guys to come together as a team, to play for a conference title." It also gives us as a team and a coaching staff a measuring stick as to where we are, and what things we need to improve on before, the start of conference play.  This years conference schedule will consist of 6 games with 4 games being at home in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.  Conference play will wrap up at home on February 28 at 7:30 pm against Southern University Shreveport.
