Bears fall to Dolphins in series finale

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #19 Delgado Dolphins met this afternoon to close out their three game conference series. The Dolphins would use two big innings and a solid starting pitching performance to defeat the Bears and sweep the series 9-2.

Delgado would get on the board first with three runs off 3 hits, in the bottom of the first inning, to take the early 3-0 lead. The Dolphins would plate four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and one run, in the bottom of the fifth, to increase their lead over the Bears to 8-0.

The Bears would get on the board with two runs, in the top of the seventh inning, but they still trailed the Dolphins 8-2. Dillion Bird would pinch hit and hit a single to left field. Matthew Reinholtz would follow with a walk. Jake Brouillette would pinch run for Bird. Both Brouillette and Reinholtz would score on a pinch hit double by Isaac Leger to centerfield.

  • The Dolphins would respond and tact on another run, in the bottom of the seventh, to increase their lead over the Bears to 9-2.

John Touchet started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Touchet pitched 1 inning allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 2. Cade Robin (4.0 innings), and Hudson Manuel (3.0 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. C. Achee started on the mound for the Dolphins and was credited with the victory.

Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 4. Baton Rouge committed four errors in the ball game compared to one for Delgado.

Bears Highlights

Collin Dupre went 1 for 3

Dillion Bird went 1 for 1

Lane Patin went 1 for 2.

Isaac Leger went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs.

With the loss the Bears fell to 7-31 while the Dolphins improved to 27-6 on the season.

The Bears will host the LSU Alexandria Generals on Monday April 1, 2024 at 4 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
