Bears Baseball sweep the Hinds Eagles in Raymond

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to play the Hinds Community College Eagles at Joe E Moss Field this afternoon. The Bears had a great pitching performance from Cade Robin, John Touchet and Cole Veronie as they combined to allow 3 earned runs in the two games. The Bears also figured out a way to get that timely hit that they had been missing on their way to a sweep of the Hinds Eagles; 6-2 and 4-2.

Game One

The Baton Rouge Bears rallied, in the top of the seventh inning, to plate five runs and Cade Robin pitched a complete game for the Bears. The Bears won game one 6-2.

The Bears would get on the board first with a run, in the top of the second inning. Barrett Hebert would lead off with a walk and he would advance to second on an infield single by Conner Kleinpeter. Seth Fontenot would hit into a fielders choice but Hebert would advance to third on the play. Matthew Reinholtz would reach on an error by the Eagles shortstop and Hebert would score on the play to give the Bears the 1-0 lead.

The Eagles would tie the game in the bottom of the third when T. Marsala would hit a triple and score on a Bears error. At the end of three inning the game was tied at one.

The Bears would rally and manufacture five runs, in the top of the seventh, to take a 6- 1 lead over the Eagles. Barrett Hebert would lead off with a single to right field. Collin Dupre would execute a push bunt to move Max Veillon, who pinch ran for Hebert, to second and Dupre would beat out the throw to first. Conner Kleinpeter would hit a sac bunt to move the runners up 90 feet. Seth Fontenot would lay down another Bear's bunt and reach on an error. The Bears would score Veillon and Dupre on the Fontenot bunt play. Matthew Reinholtz would then double down the left field line driving in Fontenot. Lane Patin would hit a bunt single moving Reninhotz to third. Tanner Hornback would ground out to the second basemen but Reinholtz would score on the play for the Bears fourth run of the frame. Jackson Martin would walk and Braden McLin would reach on a dropped third strike to load the bases full of Bears. Patin would score on a pass ball for the Bears fifth run of the frame. 

The Eagles would not just go down quietly, in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Eagles would load the bases via two singles and a hit by batter. Then they would hit a single to plate one run. Bears pitcher Cade Robin  would get a pop out to himself and a fly out to Braden McLin to seal the 6-2 game one complete game victory.

Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears and earned the complete game victory. Robin pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. C. Burton started on the mound for the Eagles and was credited with the loss. He pitched 6.2 innings allowing 6 runs (2 earned) on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 2.

Both teams recorded seven hits in the game and both teams committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights 

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Jackson Martin went 1 for 3 with 1 BB.

Barrett Hebert went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1BB.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Conner Kleinpeter went 1 for 2

Matthew Reinholtz went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Lane Patin went 1 for 3.

Game Two

The Bears would find that timely hit to defeat the Eagles 4-2 in the nightcap of today's doubleheader.  Baton Rouge had another great game on the mound as John Touchet and Cole Veronie combined to allow only 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1.

The Bears would get on the board first with one run, in the top of the third inning. Matthew Reinholtz would lead off the inning with a double to left field. Latin Patin would follow with a bloop single to right field. Tanner Hornback would single up the middle to drive home Reinholtz for the Bears first run of the game.

The Bears bats would come alive, in the top of the seventh inning, when they would plate three runs to increase their lead to 4-0 over the Eagles. Matthew Reinholtz would lead off the inning with a walk and he would steal second. Lain Patin would follow up with a single and Reinholtz would advance to third. Tanner Hornback would be intentionally walked to load the bases with Bears. Jackson Martin would single to left field driving in Reinholtz. Braden McLin would hit a bloop single to centerfield scoring Patin and Hornback.

Similar to game one the Eagles would not go down without a fight  as they would load the bases via a single and two hit by batters. The Eagles would then hit a double scoring two runs with two outs. Bears pitcher Cole Veronie would get the Eagles to hit a ball to Bears Shortstop Matthew Reinholtz who then threw it to Jackson Martin at first for the final out of the ballgame. The Bears held on for the 4-2 game two victory over the Eagles.

John Touchet started on the mound for the Bears and was credited with the victory. JT pitched 3 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while strikeout 1. Cole Veronie ( 4.0 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. Veronie allowed 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3. B. Boykin started on the mound for the Eagles and was credited with the loss. He pitched 6.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while walking 4 and striking out 6.

Both teams collected 7 hits and the Bears committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI, 1BB,  2 stolen bases and 1 Run.

Jackson Martin went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Braden McLin went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Barrett Hebert had 1 BB and 1 stolen base.

Colin Dupre went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 3 stolen bases.

Matthew Reinholtz went 1 for 2 with 2 runs, 1 stolen base and 1 BB.

Lain Patin went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 stolen bases.

With the sweep the Bears improved to 7-28 while the Eagles fell to 15-18 on the season.

 

The Bears will start conference play next weekend Friday March 29 and Saturday March 30 at Delgado Community College. The series will start Friday with a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
