Bears sweep Louisiana Christian Wildcats JV Team

Pineville, LA: Baseball

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Pineville, Louisiana this afternoon to take on the Louisiana Christian University JV team, at Willy Allgood Field. The Bears would get their bats going early and often in both games as they would sweep the Wildcats, 15-7 and 11-5.

Game One

The Bears would use a huge third inning offensive explosion and a combined solid pitching performance by Ponthieux, Touchet and Veronie to propel them to the 15-7 game one victory over the Wildcats.

The Bears would come out the gates swing as they would plate five runs in the first inning. Jackson Martin would hit a triple to right field and score on a Barrett Hebert single to right field. Ryan Richard, who reached by being hit by a pitch would score on a  Braden McLin fielder's choice for the Bears second run.  Collin Dupre would hit a double to left field scoring McLin. Seth Fontenot would hit a two run homer to left field(his first collegiate homer run) to extend the Bears lead to 5-0. The Wildcats would plate two runs, in the bottom of the first inning, but they still trailed the Bears 5-2.

The Bears would add a run, in the second inning, via a solo homer to left field by Ryan Richard.; 6-2. The Bears would have an offensive explosion,in the third inning, as they would score seven runs in the frame to take a commanding 13-2 lead over the Wildcats. The inning would be highlighted by a triple by Braden McLin, a double by Colin Dupre, scoring a run, a single by Tanner Hornback, scoring two runs and a single by Braden McLin, scoring a run. Baton Rouge would stay hot at the plate as they would plate two more runs, in the fifth inning, to take a 15-2 lead over the Wildcats. Barrett Hebert would lead off with a single to left field and advance to second on a Wildcats throwing error. Braden McLin would hit a double to centerfield. McLin would score on a live drive single to left field by Collin Dupre. Dupre would advance to second on a pass ball. Max Veillon would pinch run for Dupre and he would score on a Jaxon Adams single up the middle.

The Wildcats would not go down without a fight as they would score four runs, in the bottom of the sixth inning, and a run in the seventh inning but it was not enough as the Bears would defeat the Wildcats 15 to 7 in game one.

Owen Ponthieux started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Owen pitched 3 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. John Touchet ( 2 innings) and Cole Veronie ( 2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears.

Baton Rouge outhit Louisiana Christian 15 to 8. Both teams committed one error in the ball game.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 5 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Jackson Martin went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1BB.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 2 with 3 runs, 1 RBI and 1BB.

Barrett Hebert went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Braden McLin went 3 for 5 with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.

Collin Dupre went 3 for 3 with 1 run and 3 RBIs.

Max Veillon had 1 run

Matthew Reinholtz had 2 BB and 1 run.

Shea Pitre went 2 for 4 with 1 run.

 

Game Two

The Bears bats remained hot in game two as again, they would have a huge inning to propel them to an 11 to 5 victory over the Wildcats.

Louisiana Christian would get things started when they would score three runs, in the bottom of the first inning, to take the early 3-0 advantage. The Bears would get a run back in the second inning when Braden McLin would lead off with a solo homer to left field. The Bears trailed the Wildcats 3-1 after two innings. The Wildcats would add to their lead via a lead off solo homer in the third inning;4-1.

Baton Rouge would drive in three runs, in the fourth inning, to tie the game at 4. Ryan Richard and Barrett Hebert would draw back to back walks to start the inning. Braden McLin would single to left field scoring Richard.  Matthew Reinholtz would lay down a beautiful sac bunt scoring Hebert and McLin. The Bears would erupt for six runs, in the fifth inning, to take an 10-4 lead.  Tanner Hornback would lead off with a single to left field. Ryan Richard would reach on a walk. Both Hornback and Richard would score on a three run homer by Barrett Hebert to right field.  Colin Dupre and Matthew Reinholtz would draw back to back walks and they would both score on a Lane Patin double to left field. Braden Corkern would single to left field driving in Patin to cap off the six run inning for the Bears. The Bears would add an insurance run, in the seventh inning, when Lane Patin would lead off with a single and score on a sacrifice fly by Dillion Bird. The Wildcats would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning but they would only scratch one run thus the Bears would defeat the Wildcats 11 to 5.

Reid Godchaux started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Reid pitched 4 innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7. Caden Durand pitched 3 innings in relief for the Bears.

Both teams tallied 11 hits and the Wildcats committed two errors in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 2 for 3 with 1 run.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 2 with 2 BB, 1 homer and 2 runs.

Barrett Hebert went 1 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 BB and 3 RBIs.

Braden McLin went 3 for 4 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 1 homer.

Collin Dupre had 1 run.

Matthew Reinholtz went 1 for 2 with 1 BB, 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Lane Patin went 1 for 4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.

Braden Corkern went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

 

 

With the sweep the Bears improved to 5-28 on the season.

 

The Bears will travel to Raymond, Mississippi this Friday March 22 to take on Hinds Community College in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
