Bears fall in series finale to Blackhawks

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Southeastern Community College Blackhawks concluded their three game series this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field. Blackhawks used a huge third inning to propel them to the 11 to 6 victory over the Bears.

The Bears would scratch across a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.  Tanner Hornback would lead off with a single to left field  and would score on a sac fly by Collins Dupre.

The Blackhawks would erupt for six runs, in the top of the third inning, to take a 6-1 lead over the Bears. Three of their six runs and via a three run homer by M. Beatty to left field.

The Bears would scratch across a run in the fourth inning when Collin Dupre would hit a double to right field and score on a wall banger single to right field by Barrett Hebert. The Bears would add another run in the inning when Hebert would be moved to second via single by Seth Fontenot and he would score on a Braden McLin single to left field. At four innings, the Bears trailed the Blackhawks 6-3.

Baton Rouge continue to claw their way back into the game with a run in the fifth inning but they still trailed the Blackhawks 6-4. Tanner Hornback would lead off with a single and he would steal second and score on a Ryan Richard ground out.

The Blackhawks added three runs to their lead in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-4 lead over the Bears .

The Bears would continue to scratch away, in the bottom of the sixth inning, via a two run homer by Isaac Leger to left field. After the sixing inning, inning the Bears trailed the Blackhawks 9-6.

The Blackhawks would add two insurance runs in the eighth inning to secure the 11 to 6 victory this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.

Reid Godchaux started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Reid pitched 3 innings allowing 6 runs on 5 hits while walking two. Caden Durand ( 2.2 innings ), Cade Robin ( 2.1 innings) and Briggs Ardoin (1 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears. L. Mulholland started on the mound for the Blackhawks.

Southeastern outhit Baton Rouge 14 to 8. Both teams committed one error in the ballgame.

 

Game Highlights 

Tanner Hornback went 3 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 BB.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 BB.

Barrett Hebert ent 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Seth Fontenot went 1 for 3

Braden McLin went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Isaac Leger went 1 for 1 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 Homer.

 

With the loss the Bears fell to 3-27, while Southeastern improve to 15-5 on the season.

The Bears will travel to Decatur, Mississippi this Saturday March 16 to take on the #1 East Central Warriors in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
