Bears split with South Suburban Bulldogs at Lamar University

The Baton Rouge Bears and the South Suburban Bulldogs met this afternoon in a double header at Lamar University's  Vincent Beck Stadium.  The Bears and Bulldogs would split the day with the Bulldogs rallying late to defeat the Bears 5-4, in game one and the Bears would defeat the Bulldogs 6-0 in game two.

Game One 

Baton Rouge would comeback to tie the game with four runs, in the fifth inning, but the South Suburban Bulldogs would scratch across a run, in the sixth inning, to pull away with the 5-4 game one victory.

The Bulldogs would get on the board first when they would score a run in the first, second, third and fourth innings to take a 4-0 lead over the Bears. 

Baton Rouge would tie the game at four when they would plate  four runs, in the  fifth innings. Jack Cowan would single to centerfield , Brady Neyland would reach via and error and Seth Fontenot would walk to load the bases with Bears.  Isaac Leger would hit a triple to centerfield scoring Cowan, Neyland and Fontenot. Matthew Reinholtz would reach on an error by the Bulldogs third basemen and Leger would score on the play for the fourth run of the frame. 

The Bulldogs would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the sixth inning, to grab the 5 to 4 lead over the Bears. 

The Bears would threaten when they would load the bases, in the top of the seventh, when Brady Neyland would single and the Bears drew back to back walks from Seth Fontenot and Isaac Leger with one out.  The Bulldogs would turn a double play to end threat and preserve the 5 to 4 game one victory over the Bears. 

Ian Johnson started on the mound for the Bears. Johnson pitched two innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1. Cole Veronie (2 innings), Hudson Manuel (1.1 innings ) and Tanner Cranford  (.2 innings ) pitched in relief for the Bears.  Hudson Manuel was credited with the loss for the Bears A. Lamus started on the mound for the Bulldogs and pitched 4 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1. 

South Suburban outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 5. Both teams committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Brady Neyland went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 run.

Seth Fontenot had 3 BB and 1 run.

Isaac Leger went 1 for 3 with 1 BB, 3 RBIs and 1 triple.

Aidan Machado went 2 for 3.

Jack Cowan went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

 

Game Two

Bears would score at least a run in five of the seven inning, in game two, to defeat South Suburban Bulldogs 6-0.

The Bears would get on the board with two runs, in the bottom of the first inning. Ryan Richard would single to right field and score on an Isaac Leger double to left field.  Leger would score on a Brady Neyland single up the middle for the Bears second run of the frame. Bears pitcher Reid Godchaux would face the minimum number of batters through two innings. The Bears would add to their lead with a run in the third inning. Tanner Hornback would double to right field but would be caught trying to steal third. Ryan Richard would single to left field and score on an Isaac Leger single up the middle.  After three innings, the Bears led 3-0. The Bears would add on another run in the fourth inning. Jackson Martin would hit a solo homer to right field, in the six inning,  to increase the Bears lead to 5-0. The Bears would load the bases, in the top of the seventh inning, when Conner Kleinpeter and Jaxon Adams would draw back to back walks and Braden McLin would hit an infield single. Dillion Bird would draw a walk with the bases loaded scoring Kleinpeter for the Bears sixth run of the game. Cade Robin would shut down the Bulldogs threat, in the seventh inning, to preserve the 6-0 Bears victory.

Reid Godchaux started on the mound and earned the victory. Godchaux pitched 4 innings  allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3. Caden Durand (2 innings) and Cade Robin (1 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears. E. Santa guide started in the mound for the Bulldogs and was credited with the loss. He pitched four innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3.

Baton Rouge outhit South Suburban 9 to 5. Both teams committed and error in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Jackson Martin went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1RBI.

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI,

Ryan Richard went 2 for 3 with 2 runs.

Isaac Leger went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Brady Neyland went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Braden McLin went 1 

 

With the split the Bears improved to 3-24 and the Bulldogs improved to 8-5 on the season. 

The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday March 13 and Wednesday March 14 as they Host Southeastern Community College at Pete Goldsby Field.
