Bears swept at Wesson in wild day versus the Co-Lin Wolves

A bizarre day at the diamond between the Baton Rouge Bears and the Copiah Lincoln Wolves as they finished the four game home and home series this afternoon in Wesson, Mississippi. Co-Lin would rally late to defeat Baton Rouge 7 to 6 in game one. Game two would be double forfeited by both teams after an allocation by both teams at the end of game one. 

 

Game One

The Wolves would use a four run seventh inning to defeat the Bears 7 to 6, in game one of today's doubleheader.

Co-Lin Wolves would get on the board first with a run, in the bottom of the first inning,  to take a 1-0 lead over the Bears.

The Bears would respond with two runs, in the second inning, to take a 2-1 lead over the Wolves Seth Fontenot would lead off by being hit by a pitch and would move to second on a pass ball. Shea Pitre would reach on a bunt. Jackson Martin would ground out but Fontenot would score on the play.  Pitre would score on a wild pitch for the Bears second run of the game and the lead. 

Co-Lin would tie the game, in the bottom of the third inning, with a solo homer to left field.

Baton Rouge would respond and retake the lead, in the top of the fourth, when Seth Fontenot would double to left field scoring Matthew Reinholtz, who reached on a walk. Shea Pitre would hit a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield moving Fontenot to third. Jackson Martin would reach on an infield hit to the second basemen scoring Fontenot on the play.  The Bears would score two runs in the inning to take a 4-2 lead over the Wolves.

Conner Kleinpeter would extend the Bears lead, in the fifth inning, with a two run homer to left field; 6-2. The Wolves would pick up a run, in the bottom of the sixth-inning, but they still trailed the Bears 6-3.

Co-Lin would take the lead, in the bottom of the  seventh inning, when they would plate four runs to take a 7 to 6 lead. 

Baton Rouge would have their chances to tie the game,in the top of the ninth inning, when Jackson Martin would reach by being hit by a pitch and a Tanner Hornback would single. Conner Kleinpeter would single to left field but the Wolves left fielder would throw a strike to get Martin out at the plate to end the Bears threat and the game.

Owen Ponthieux started on the mound for the Bears.  Ponthieux pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4. Briggs Ardoin (0.0 innings), Tanner Cranford (1.2 innings) and Jackson Martin (0.1 innings ) pitched in relief for the Bears.  Briggs Ardoin was credited with the loss for the Bears.Tyler Ferguson started on the mound for the Wolves. He pitched 2.1 innings allowing 2 runs( 1 earned) on one hit while striking out two and walking 3. 

 

Bears Game One Highlights:

Jackson Martin went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Tanner Hornback went 2 for 4

Ryan Richard went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Conner Kleinpeter went 2 for 5 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 1 homer.

Seth Fontenot went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

 

Game Two

The second game of the day was ruled a double forfeit after an altercation in game one involving both teams.

 

With the pair of losses the Bears fell to 2-23, while with the split the Wolves improved to 9-11 on the season.

 

The Bears will travel to Beaumont, Texas this Thursday March 7 to take on South Suburban in a doubleheader starting at 10 am at Lamar University.
