Bears split with Co-Lin Wolf Pack at Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Copiah Lincoln Wolf Pack will start a four game home and home series today at Pete Goldsby Field. The Wolf Pack would win game one 7-3 but the Bears would rebound to force a split of the day with a 10-9 walk off victory in the nightcap.

Game One

The Bears would get on the board first, in the bottom of the fourth inning,  when they would take advantage of two wolves error. Tanner Hornback would lead off with a walk and he would steal second. The Wolves would try to catch Hornback stealing but two errors later Hornback would cross the plate with the Bears first run of the game and the early lead.

Co-Lin would respond and take the lead in the top of the fifth inning with five runs. The Wolves would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching and multiple errors by the Bears defensive to take a 5-1 lead. The Bears would inch closer in the bottom of the fifth when they would scratch across a run but still trailed the Wolves 5-2. Conner Kleinpeter would lead off with a triple to left field and score on a single by Seth Fontenot.

The Wolves continue to stay hot at the plate scoring two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to increase their lead over the Bears to 7-2.

Baton Rouge would scratch across a run in the eighth inning, Tanner Hornback would be hit by a pitch and score on a double by Ryan Richard. The Bears would load the bases with two walks but leave them stranded on a fielder's choice out.

Co-Lin Wolves would take game one 7 to 3.

Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears.  Robin pitched 4.2 innings allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits while walking three and striking out 1. Briggs Ardoin ( 1.1 inning), John Touchet (2 innings ) and Jaxon Adams ( 1 inning )pitched in relief for the Bears.A. Boleyn started on the mound for Co-Lin and earned the victory for the Wolves. He pitched 7.2 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 9.

 

Co-Lin outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 6. Both teams committed three errors in the ball game.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Ryan Richard went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Tanner Hornback had 2 runs

Conner Kleinpeter went 1 for 4 with 1 run and a triple.

Seth Fontenot went 2 for 3

Aidan Machado went 1 for 1

Lane Patin went 1 for 1

 

Game Two

Baton Rouge Bears would wait to the end of tonight's game to get their bats going as they would walk off with the 10 to 9 game two victory over the Co-Lin Wolf Pack.

Colin would get on the board first with four runs, in the top of the third inning, to take the early advantage over the bears. The Wolf Pack would add to their lead, in the fourth inning, with two runs; 6-0.

Baton Rouge would finally get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tanner Hornback would lead off with a walk. Ryan Richard would reach on a fielder's choice. Conner Kleinpeter would hit a double to right field. Braden McLin would draw a walk to load the bases for the Bears. Brady Neyland would reach on a fielders choice which would score Richard and Kleinpeter.

Co-Lin would respond with two runs of their own, in the fifth inning, to extend their lead advantage to 8-2 over the Bears. The Wolf Pack would load the bases in the sixth inning and scratch across a run on a sac fly to extend their lead to 9-2.

Baton Rouge would scratch closer, in the sixth inning with four runs; 9-6.  Ryan Richard would lead off and reach on a walk. Conner Kleinpeter would be hit by a pitch. Braden McLin would lay down a bunt to move Richard and Kleinpeter up 90 feet to second and third.  Brady Neyland would hit a single to score Richard. Shea Pitre would follow with a single of his own scoring Kleinpeter.  Braden Corkern would hit a line drive single to centerfield scoring Neyland and Pitre for the Bears third and fourth run of the frame.

Down to their last at bat, the Bears would score three runs, in the seventh inning, to tie the game at nine and force extra innings. Tanner Hornback would lead off with a single. Conner Kleinpeter would hit an infield single to put runners on first and second. Braden McLin would be next and he would hit a three run homer to left field over the scoreboard to tie the game at three.

Bears pitcher Colin McDonald would get the wolves to go down in order in the top of the eighth with three straight ground outs. 

In the bottom of the eighth, the Bears would lead off the inning with a single to right field by Seth Fontenot. Jackson Martin would then lay down a sacrifice bunt to move Fontenot to second. Tanner Hornback would draw a walk. Ryan Richard would single to left field loading the bases for the Bears. Conner Kleinpeter would hit into a fielders choice with the out at home but an error by the Wolf Packs catcher trying to get the out at first allowed Hornback to score the game winning run for the Bears.

 

The Bears would fight and claw their way back for the 10 to 9 walk off victory over the Co-Lin Wolves. 

Caden Durand started on the mound for the Bears. Durand pitched 4 innings allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 3. Colin McDonald pitched 4 inning in relief for the Bears to earn the victory. McDonald allowed 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 2.  C. Pittman started on the mound for the Wolf Pack. He pitched five innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 4 and striking out 6. 

 

Bears Game Two Highlights 

Jackson Martin went 1 for 4.

Tanner Hornback went 2 for 2 with 2 BB and 2 Runs.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 BB.

Conner Kleinpeter went 2 for 4 with 3 runs.

Braden McLin went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 3 RBIs and a homer.

Brady Neyland went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 3 RBIs.

Shea Pitre went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Braden Corkern went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Seth Fontenot went 1 for 1

 

With the split the Bears improved to 2-21, while the Wolf Pack improved to 8-10 n the season.

The Bears and the Wolf Pack will meet on Sunday March 3, 2024 in Wesson, MS. The doubleheader will start at 1 pm.
