Bears drop two close games to Tyler Junior College Apaches at Goldsby

Baton Rouge Bears drop a pair of close games to the Tyler Junior College Apaches, this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field. Tyler would win game one 4-3 and game two 5-3.

Game One

After scoring three runs in the first four innings, the Bears bats would go cold as they would lose to the Apaches 4 to 3, in game one of today's doubleheader.

Tyler would get on the board first with a run in the top of the first inning. The Bears would tie the game in the second inning when Collin Dupre would lead off with a single to right field and score on a single by Seth  Fontenot. After two innings the game was tied at one.

Tyler would briefly retake the lead, in the third inning, when they would score one run;2-1. Baton Rouge would quickly respond, in the bottom of the inning, to tie the game at 2. Jackson Martin would lead off and reach by being hit with a pitch. Dillion Bird would single up the middle moving Martin to third. Collin Dupre would single up the middle to score Martin to tie the game.

Tyler would take the lead, in the fourth inning, when they would load the bases via two walks and a hit by batter. The Bears would walk the Apaches with the bases loaded driving in a run. The Apaches would hit a sac fly to drive in their second run of the inning to take a 4 to 2 lead over the Bears.

Baton Rouge would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the fourth, but they still trailed 4-3. Shea Pitre would lead off with a walk,advance to second when Tanner Hornback would walk, move to third on a sac bunt by Jackson Martin and score on a wild pitch.  The Bears would be held scoreless over the next three innings. Tyler Junior College would defeat the Bears 4-3.

Owen Ponthieux started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Ponthieux pitched 4 innings allowing 4 runs ( 3 earned) on 3 hits while walking three and striking out 3. Caden Durand pitched three inning in relief for the Bears. D Valadez was credited for the win for the Apaches. He pitched three innings allowing 2 runs on 4hits while striking out 4 and walking 3.

Baton Rouge outhit Tyler 5 to 3. Tyler committed three errors compared to 1 for Baton Rouge.

Bears Game  One Highlights 

Dillion Bird went 1 for 2 with 1BB

Jackson Martin had 1 Run.

Collin Dupre went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Seth Fontenot went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

Shea Pitre went 1 for 1 with run.

Game Two

In game two of today's doubleheader, runs were at a premium. The pitching from both ball clubs was the story of game two. Tyler would score two runs, in the fifth inning, to secure the 5 to 3 victory over the Bears.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run, in the second inning, to take an early advantage over the Apaches. Dillion Bird would lead off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Collin Dupre would follow with a walk. Brady Neyland would lay down a sac bunt to move the runners up to second and third.  Dillion Bird would score on a wild pitch for the Bears first run of the ball game.

Cade Robin would face the minimum number of  batters through three innings, sitting down the first nine batters he would face. Tyler would break through, in the fourth inning,  when they would score three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Baton Rouge would respond and tie the game at three with two runs, in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dillion Bird would lead off the inning with a single to left field followed by a Collin Dupre walk. The Bears would successfully pull off a double steal with Bird and Dupre.  Lane Patin would lay down a sac bunt which would score Bird and Dupre to tie the game at 3.

The Apaches would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Bears to score two runs with a double by L. Risenhoover to take a 5-3 lead over the Bears.

For the next four innings,  Collin McDonald for the Bears and G. Murry for the Apaches kept the other side out of sync at the plate. The Bears would have their chances but they could not get that timely hit to score a run thus fall 5 to 3, in game two.

Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears and was credited with the loss. Robin pitched 4.1 innings allowing 5 runs on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 8. Collin McDonald pitched 4.2 innings in relief for the Bears. Sam Peterson started on the mound for the Apaches . He pitched 4 innings allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4.

 

Baton Rouge outhit Tyler 6 to 5. Neither team committed an error in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Jackson Martin went 1 for 4.

Dillion Bird went 1 for 3 with 2 runs.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 2 BB.

Braden Corkern went 1 for 2.

Seth Fontenot went 1 for 2.

Shea Pitre went 1 for 2.

 

The Bears will travel to Niceville, Florida this Tuesday February 20 to take on Northwest Florida State College in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
