Bears lose to Tyler Junior College under the Friday Night Lights at Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Tyler Junior College Apaches faced off this evening under the lights at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears struggled to control the big innings thus fell to the Apaches 18 to 9.

Tyler would get on the board first with three runs in the top of the first inning. Baton Rouge would respond and scratch across a run, in the bottom of the first inning,  but they still trailed 3-1. John Touchet would lead off and reach on a walk. Tanner Hornback would follow with a single to left field. Both runners would move up on a passed ball. Touchet would score on a ground out by Jackson Martin.

The Bears bats would come alive, in the third inning,  when they would plate six runs to take a 7 to 3 lead over the Apaches.  John Touchet would lead off with a single to centerfield.  Touchet would steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Tanner Hornback would draw a walk. Jackson Marin would double to left field scoring Touchet and Hornback. Dillion Bird and Collin Dupre would hit back to back singles. Ryan Richard would draw a walk with the bases loaded scoring Martin. Braden McLin would get hit by a pitch scoring Bird. Dupre would score when John Touchet would reach via a walk with the bases loaded. Richard would score on a bulk by the Apaches pitcher for the Bears six run of the inning.

The Apaches would inch closer with a run, in the fourth inning, but they still trailed the Bears 7 to 4.

The Bears would add two runs to their lead in the sixth inning; 9-4. Tanner Hornback would walk and score on a Jackson Martin single. Martin would steal second, advance to third on a pass ball and score on the Apache's catcher error.

The Apaches would erupt for nine runs, in the seventh inning, to retake the lead 13-9. They would add to their  lead with two more runs, in the eighth and three runs in the ninth to seal the 18 to 9 comeback victory.

Ian Johnson started on the mound for the Bears. Johnson pitched two innings allowing 3 runs on 2 hits while walking 4 and striking out 3. Briggs Ardoin ( 4.0 innings), Ethan Quebodeaux (.1 innings), Jackson Martin (.2 innings) Hunter Lail (1.0 innings) and Brady Neyland (1 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears.  C. Cross earned the victory for the Apaches. He pitched 2.2 innings allowing 7 runs on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2.

Tyler outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 9. Baton Rouge committed three errors compared to one for Tyler in the ball game.

 

Bears Game Highlights:

John Touchet went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 BB and 1 RBI.

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 3 with 2 BB and 2 Runs.

Jackson Martin went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 4 RBIs.

Dillion Bird went 1 for 5 with 1 Run

Collin Dupre went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

Ryan Richard had 1 run and 1 RBI.

Max Veillon went 1 for 1

Braden McLin went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

 

With the loss the Bears fell to 1-12, while Tyler Junior College improved to 9-2 on the season.

The Bears will host the St. Louis Community College Archers in a three game series starting Saturday February 17, 2024.
