Bears drop to heartbreakers to Jones College in Ellisville

Baton Rouge would travel to Ellisville, Mississippi to take on the Jones College Bobcats at Community Bank Park. The Bears would lose two heartbreakers as they would have the lead late in both games, but two Jones College late game rallies would help them sweep the Bears; 7-8 and 5-4.

Game One

The Bobcats rallied late to defeat the Bears 8 to 7, in the game of today's doubleheader.

Jones College would get on the board first via a leadoff homer by C Hedgwood, in the bottom of the first innings.

Baton Rouge would take the lead in the top of the third inning when they would score three runs in the frame. Lane Patin would walk, steal second, advance to third on an error and score on a Jackson Martin single for the Bears first run of the game. Tanner Hornback would be hit by a pitch. The Bears would take advantage of some wild pitching by the Bobcats to score their second run via two wild pitches. Hornback would then score on a sac fly by Collin Dupre.

The Bears would add a run in the top of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead. Seth Fontenot would leadoff with a double to center field. Jackson Martin would single to centerfield scoring Fontenot.

Baton Rouge would continue to stay hot at the plate as they would score three more runs, in the top of the seventh inning, to increase their lead to 7-1 over the Bobcats. Braden McLin and Seth Fontenot would lead off the inning with back-to-back singles.  They would be moved up 60 feet with a sac bunt by Lane Patin. Jackson Martin would ground out, but McLin would score on the play. Tanner Hornback would follow with a double to right field scoring Fontenot. Collin Dupre would follow with a single to left field scoring Hornback.

Jones would find something at the plate, in the bottom of the seventh inning, cutting into the Bears lead; 7-4. Jones would start off the inning with a triple then back-to-back double. They would also take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Bears to score three runs in the frame.

Jones would again take advantage of the Bears inconsistent pitching and some timely hitting to score four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to grab the 8 to 7 lead over the Bears. Jones would get the Bears to go down in order in the top of the ninth inning to seal the 8 to 7 comeback victory over the Bears.

Cade Robin started on the mound for the Bears. Robin pitched 6 innings allowing 1 run on 7 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 1. Collin McDonald (1.0), Jaxon Adams (.1 innings) and Ethan Quebodueax (.2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. Jaxon Adams would be credited for the loss for the Bears.  T. Hillen started on the mound for the Bobcats. He pitched six innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5.

Jones College outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 8. Baton Rouge committed two errors compared to one for Jones College.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Jackson Martin went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 3 RBIs.

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs.

Brady Neyland went 1 for 4.

Braden McLin went 1 for 4 with 1 Run.

Seth Fontenot went 2 for 4 with 2 runs.

 

Game Two

It was de'ja'vu for the Bears, in game two, versus the Jones College Bobcats. The Bears held a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth inning. The Bobcats would rally to score four runs, in the final two innings, to steal the 5 to 4 win.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with two runs in the first inning. Lane Patin would reach on a walk, Jackson Martin would single and Tanner Hornback would hit a double to score Patin. Jackson would score on a wild pitch for the Bears second run of the frame. The Bears would add a run to their lead in the bottom of the third inning. Lane Patin and Jackson Martin would hit back to back singles to start the inning. Patin would score on a pass ball. After three innings, the Bears led 3-0.

Jones College would get on the board in the fifth inning with a run but they still trailed the Bears 3-1. Jones would score three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead over the Bears.  The Bears would tie the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning.  The Bears would load the bases in the seventh inning when Braden McLin would single to left field and Barrett Hebert and Lane Patin would draw walks. Braden McLin would score on a pass ball to tie the game at 4.

Jones would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning via double, a walk and a hit by pitch. The Bobcats would score on a pass ball thus walking off with the 5 to 4 victory over the Bears.

Caden Durand started on the mound for the Bears. Durand pitched 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1. Briggs Ardoin would be credited for the loss for the Bears.  E. Walker started on the mound for the Bobcats. He pitched 6.1 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 8 and walking 3. C. Brooks was credited for the win for the Bobcats.

Jones College outhit Baton Rouge 7 to 5. Neither team committed an error in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights

Lane Patin went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs.

Jackson Martin went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Braden McLin went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

  

With the pair of losses the Bears fell to 1-18, while Jones College improved to 14-2 on the season.

 

These two ball games will play this Sunday February 25 in Baton Rouge. The first pitch of the doubleheader between the Bears and Bobcats will be at 2 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
