Bears fall to #3 Pearl River Wildcats at Pete Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #3 Pearl River Wildcats met this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field to conclude their four game home and home series. The Bears struggled to contain the high powered offense of the Pear River Wildcats and limiting the big innings as the Wildcats swept the Bears; 10-3 and 16-4.

 

Game One

Pearl River Wildcats would use two big innings to defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 10-3, in today's first game of the doubleheader.

Pearl River would get on the board, in the bottom of the second inning, with a run to take the early lead. The Wildcats would tact on five more runs, in the top of the third inning, to increase their lead over the Bears to 6-0. Two of those run came off a two run homer by Caston Thompson to right field. The Wildcats would have enough big inning, in the top of the sixth inning, when they would plate four to increase their lead to 10-0 over the Bears.

The Bears would get on the board, in the bottom of the seventh inning, as they would score three runs. Tanner Hornback and  Jake Brouillette would hit back to back singles. Both runners would move up 90 feet on a wild pitch. Collin Dupre would hit a pinch hit double driving in Hornback and Brouillette. Matthew Reinholtz would pinch run for Dupre and score on a Ryan Richard single and a Wildcat's throwing error. 

Owen Ponthieux started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Ponthieux pitched four innings allowing 6 runs on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1.Briggs Ardoin (1 inning), Brady Neyland (1 inning), Justin Coats (1 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears. J. Schnoor started on the mound for Pearl River and earned the victory. He pitched 5 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while walking one and striking out 8.

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 6. The Wildcats committed one error in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game One Highlights

Tanner Hornback went 2 for 3 with 1 run.

Jake Brouillette went 1 for 1 with 1 run.

Collin Dupre went 1 for 1 with 2 RBIs.

Ryan Richard went 1 for 3.

Dillion Bird went 1 for 1.

Briggs Ardoin pitched 1 inning getting out a bases loaded jam with 2 strikeouts.

 

Game Two

Similar to the first game the Pearl River Wildcats would use three big inning to defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 16-4, in seven innings.

Pearl River bats would stay hot as they would score four runs, in the top of first inning, to take the early advantage over the Bears. B. Fowler would lead off with a double to left field and score on a triple by J. Ince. C. Thompson would follow with a double to centerfield scoring Ince. M. Phillips would hit a two run homer to left field for the Wildcats.

The Bears attempt to respond, in the bottom of the first inning, when Dillion Bird would double down the left field line and Tanner Hornback would reach on an infield single. Hornback would steal second to have Bears on second and third but they would both be stranded.

Pearl River would tact on two more runs to their lead, in the top of the third inning; 6-0. J. Ince would double to centerfield, the Bear's pitcher would hit back to back batters to load the bases with Wildcats. J. Katsaboulas would single driving in two runs for the Wildcats. 

The Bears would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the third inning.  Jackson Martin would reach on an error then get moved over to third on a Dillion Bird single to centerfield putting runners at the corners for the Bears. Tanner Hornback would hit a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Martin for the Bears first run of the ballgame. After three innings, the Bears trailed the Wildcats 6-1.

Braden McLin would lead off, the bottom of the fourth inning, with a solo homer to left field to decreased the Wildcats lead over the Bears to 6-2.

Pearl River would tact on five more runs to their lead in the top of the fifth inning; 11-2. The Bears would respond for two runs, in the bottom of the frame, to inch closer 11-4. Dillion Bird would lead off with a single to left field. Ryan Richard and Braden McLin would reach on back to back walks to load the bases with Bears. Matthew Reinholtz would double down the left field line scoring Bird and Richard.

 

The Wildcats would score five more runs, in the top of the sixth inning, to increase their lead to 16 to 4 over the Bears. The Bears were unable to answer in the sixth and the seventh inning thus falling to the Pearl River Wildcats 16-4 in seven inning run rule.

 

Jaxon Adams started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Adams pitched 3 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits while walking one, hitting two and striking out 3. Nash Tamplet (1.2innings), Cade Robin (1.0inning), Cole Veronie (1.0 innings)  and Jackson Martin (1 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears. J. Robertson started on the mound for the Wildcats and earned the victory. Robertson pitched four innings allowing 2 runs(1 earned) on 5 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4. 

 

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 18 to 9. The Wildcats committed 2 errors compared to 1 for the Bears.

 

Bears Game Two Highlight

Dillion Bird went 4 for 4

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

Braden McLin went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 homerun

Brady Neyland went 1 for 1

Matthew Reinholtz went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs

 

With the pair of losses Baton Rouge fell to 0-10 while Pearl River improved to 8-1 on the season. Pearl River leads the overall series with 40 wins and 7 losses over Baton Rouge.

 

The Bears will host Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears this Wednesday February 14, 2024 at Pete Goldsby Field. Doubleheader starts at 3 pm.
