Bears Baseball drop a pair of games at #3 Pearl River

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Poplarville, Mississippi, this afternoon, to face the #3 Pearl River Wildcats on the diamond at Dub Herring Park for a pair of games. The Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Wildcats thus dropping a pair of games, 10-0 and 3-0.

Game One

Baton Rouge Bears had trouble stopping the high-powered offense of the Pearl River Wildcats, in game one, as they fell 10-0, in eight innings.

Pearl River would strike first with two runs in the first inning. One of those runs was via a solo homer to centerfield by H. Porter.

H. Porter would hit his second homer of the game, in the third inning, this time to right field. Pearl River would lead Baton Rouge 3-0 after three innings of play.

Pearl River would erupt for five runs, in the sixth inning,  to increase their lead over Baton Rouge to 8-0. The Wildcats would seal the run rule victory, in the bottom of the eighth inning, with two runs to take the 10-0 victory.

The Bears would have their chances in the ballgame but struggled to find that timely hit to score some runs.

Reid Godchaux started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Godchaux pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while walking 1 and striking out 4. Ethan Quebodeaux (.1 inning) Hunter Lail (.1 inning), Jaxon Adams (.1 innings) and Collin McDonald (1.2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. P. Soper started on the mound for the Wildcats and earned the victory. He pitched 5 innings allowing 0 runs on 5 hits while walking 3 and striking out 4.

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 6. Baton Rouge committed two errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Braden McLin went 1 for 4.

Jackson Martin went 1 for 3.

Lane Patin went 1 for 3.

Matthew Reinholtz went 1 for 2.

John Touchet went 1 for 1.

Brady Neyland went 1 for 2.

 

Game Two:

Game two between the Bears and the Wildcat had two strong pitching performances but the Wildcats would do just enough at the plate to pull off the 3-0 victory.

Both team's starting pitchers would battle for the first four innings. Neither team during those innings could scratch across a run. Both starting pitchers kept the other team out of sync at the plate.

The Wildcats broke out in the fifth inning with three runs to take a 3-0 lead over the Bears. The Wildcats would get a triple by H. Porter to drive in their first run of the game. I. Jeffrey would follow with a two-run homer to left field. Those would be the only runs the Wildcats would need as they defeat the Bears 3-0, in the seven-inning ballgame.

The Bears struggled at the plate only getting one hit while striking out 10 times.

Caden Durand started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Durand pitched 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6. Jack Cowan pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. T. Crabtree started on the mound for the Wildcats and earned the victory. He pitched 6 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 8.

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 7 to 1. No errors were committed in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Tanner Hornback went 1 for 2.

Caden Durand had 6 strikeouts.

 

With the pair of losses, the Bears fell to 0-8 while Pearl River improved to 6-1 on the season. Pearl River leads the overall series with 38 wins and 7 losses over Baton Rouge.

 

The Bears and the Wildcats will face each other on Sunday February 11, 2024, at Pete Goldsby Field. The doubleheader is set to start at 12 pm.
