The Baton Rouge Bears closed out the first day of the Region XXIII tournament with a match up with the #1 seed the Delgado Dolphins under the lights at Pete Goldsby Field. This was the 113th meeting between the Bears and the Dolphins. Like many games in the past between these two ball clubs it was a battle till the very end. The Bears would come up short tonight as the Delgado Dolphins would walk off with the 4-3 victory.
The Bears would get on the board first with a run in the fourth inning. Blaise Foote would be hit by a pitch, moved over to second with an infield hit by Trey Webb, he would steal third and would score on a pass ball. The Delgado Dolphins would respond with a run, in the bottom of the fourth, to tie the game at one. Baton Rouge would scratch across another run, in the fifth inning, to take a 2-1 lead. Nick Carriere would walk, advance to second on a Braxton Gallet walk and he would score on an Ethan Menard single to right field. The Bears would add to their lead with a run, in the sixth inning. Lane Hutchinson would be hit by a pitch, moved over to second by a Blaise Foote sac bunt and he would score on a Tristan Frederick double to right field. The Dolphins would rally and tie the game, in the bottom of the six, with two runs. After six innings, the game was tied at 3 apiece. The Dolphins would lead off the ninth inning with a single to right field by Alexander. Pregeant would bunt and reach on an error. Then J. Kaufman would single to left field driving in the game winning run for the Dolphins. Delgado defeats Baton Rouge 4 to 3.
Teddy Webb started on the mound for the Bears. Teddy pitched seven innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5. Gavin Green pitched in relief for the Bears and took the loss. Toms started on the mound for the Dolphins. He pitched five and one third innings allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3.
Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 8. The Bears committed three errors compared two one by the Dolphins.

Ethan Menard went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI
Tristan Frederick went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI
Braxton Gallet went 1 for 2 with 1 BB and 1 double
Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 3 with 1 run
Blaise Foote went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 double
Trey Webb went 1 for 3
With the victory, the Delgado Dolphins improve to 33-14, while the Baton Rouge Bears finish the 2022 season with a 27-31 record.
