Bears drop a pair of conference games to the Delgado Dolphins

The Baton Rouge Bears started a three game conference series with the Delgado Dolphins, this afternoon, at Pete Goldsby Field. The Delgado Dolphins would sweep the Baton Rouge Bears this afternoon 9-7 and 7-4.

Game One

The Delgado Dolphins would jump out to an early lead and hold off a rally by the Baton Rouge Bears to win game one 9 to 7.

The Dolphins would get on the board first via a two-out three run homer to left field by Alexander, in the first inning. After one inning, the Dolphins led the Bears 3-0. The Dolphins would add a run to their lead in the second inning;4-0. The Baton Rouge Bears would get on the board, in the bottom of the second inning, with two runs. Lane Hutchinson would start things off with a solo homer to left field. Gage Breithaupt would single to right field, advance to second on a Jacob Dunn single and score on a Braxton Gallet single up the middle for the Bears second run of the frame. The Dolphins would, for the third straight inning, score a run to increase their lead to 5-2. The Dolphins would add three runs to their lead, in the fourth inning, via a triple by Stutes. The Bears would respond with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gage Breithaupt would lead off with a single, Nick Carriere would follow with a bunt single and Braxton Gallet would hit a bloop single to centerfield to load the bases. Elliot Hebert would hit a double off the centerfield wall scoring Breithaupt and Carriere. Ethan Menard would hit a sac fly scoring Gallet. Blaise Foote would single up the middle scoring Hebert and the Bears fourth run of the frame. After four innings, the Dolphins held a slim 8-6 lead over the Bears. The Dolphins would tact on another run, in the fifth inning, to extend their lead to 9-6. The Bears would continue to fight as they would inch closer, in the sixth inning, via a solo homer to right field by Elliot Hebert. The Bears would put the tying run on first, in the bottom of the seventh inning,  but a pop-up double play by the Dolphins would end the Bears threat and the game. The Delgado Dolphins would win game one 9 to 7.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Gavin pitched three and one third innings allowing 8 runs on 9 hits while striking out 1. Alex Norris (3.0 innings) , Mason Long (2 batters) and Luke Evans  (0.2 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears.  Lore started on the mound for the Dolphins and earned the victory for the Dolphins. He pitched five and one thirds innings allowing 7 runs on 12 hits while striking out 7. Levatino earned the save for the Dolphins.

Baton Rouge outhit Delgado 15 to 12. Baton Rouge committed one error in the ball game.

Game One Bears Highlights 

Elliot Hebert 3 for 4 with 2 runs, 3 RBIs, 1 triple, 1 HR

Lane Hutchinson went 3 for 4 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Braxton Gallet went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Ethan Menard went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Gage Breithaupt went 2 for 4 with 2 runs

Nick Carriere went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 4

Blaise Foote went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

 

Game Two

Like game one the Delgado Dolphins would take an early lead and a Bears comeback would fall short as the Dolphins would win game two 7 to 4.

The Delgado Dolphins would get on the board first with a run, in the first inning. The Bears would tie the game at one with a run, in the second inning.Tristan Frederick would walk, steal second, advance to third on a fly out by Blaise Foote and scores on a sac fly by Nick Carriere. The Dolphins would retake the lead, in the fourth inning, when they would plate two runs:3-1. The Bears would threaten, in the bottom of the fourth,  when Lane Hutchinson would reach on an error, followed by a single by Tristan Frederick and a walk by Blaise Foote to load the bases but a diving catch by the Dolphins shortstop would end the threat. The Dolphins would load the bases, in the fifth inning, with a walk, a double and a hit by pitch. A double by L. Leblanc would clear the bases for the Dolphins. The Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Dolphins to plate three runs, in the fifth inning, to cut the Dolphins lead to 6-4. The Bears would load the bases when Jacob Dunn would lead off with a single and Elliot Hebert and Ethan Menard were both hit by a pitch. Dunn would score on a Dolphin's wild pitch. Lane Hutchinson would then get hit by a pitch to reload the bases for the Bears. Tristan Frederick would ground out but Hebert would score on the play. Nick Carriere would draw a walk scoring the Bears third run of the frame. The Dolphins would add an insurance run, in the seventh inning, to extend their lead to 7-4. The Bears would go down in order in the seventh. The Delgado Dolphins would defeat the Baton Rouge Bears 7 to 4.

Ethan Prescott started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Prescott pitched four innings allowing. Slade Zeppuhar pitched three innings in relief for the Bears. Toms started on the mound for the Dolphins and earned the victory. He pitched four innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 2.

Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 4. Delgado committed two errors compared to one for Baton Rouge in the ball game.

 

Game Two Bears Highlights

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1BB

Jacob Dunn went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Nick Carriere had 2 RBIs 

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 3

Elliot Hebert had 3 HBP

 

With the pair of victories, the Delgado Dolphins improve to 31-11, 10-1 while the Baton Rouge Bears fall to 23-29, 2-6 in conference play.

 

These two team will conclude the three game conference series tomorrow Sunday April 24 with a single nine inning game starting at 1 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
