Bears fall in series finale to the #2 LSUE Bengals

The Baton Rouge Bears and the LSUE Bengals concluded their four game weekend series, with an afternoon game, at Bengals Stadium on the Cajun Prairie. The Bears comeback attempt would fall short as the Bengals would walk it off in the ninth inning. LSUE defeats Baton Rouge 9-8.

The Bears would get on the board first via a solo homer by Elliot Hebert to left field, in the first inning. The Bengals would tie the game at one with a run, in the second inning. The Bengals would tact on two runs, in the third inning, to take a 3-1 lead over the Bears. The Bears would tie the game at three with two runs, in the fourth inning. Ethan Menard would lead off with a single, advance to second on a Bengal's error and score on a Nick Carriere single to left field. Tristan Frederick who reached on an error, steal third and score on a Jonas LeBourgeois ground out to tie the game. The Bengals would plate five runs, in the fifth inning, to take an 8-3 lead. The Bears would continue to fight and scratch two runs across in the sixth inning, but they still trailed 8-5. Blaise Foote, who reached on a fielder's choice, would score on a Nick Carriere single to left field.Tristan Frederick who doubled would steal home for the Bears second run of the frame. The Bears would inch closer with a run in the eighth inning;8-6. Ethan Menard would lead off the inning with a single up the middle and would score on a Nick Carriere ground out to the pitcher. The comeback Bears would score two runs, in the ninth inning, to tie the game at eight. Gage Breithaupt would lead off with a single to left field and he would score on an Ethan Menard single (his fourth of the ballgame). Braxton Gallet, who walked, would score on a Tristan Frederick bunt single to tie the game at eight. The Bengals would load the bases in the bottom of the ninth via a walk, a single and an intentional walk. Romero would hit a line drive single up the middle scoring the winning run. The Bengals defeat the Bears 9 to 8.

Moody started on the mound for the Bengals. He pitched five and a third innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits. Slade Zeppuhar started on the mound for the Bears. Slade pitched four innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3. Caden Akana took the loss for the Bears. Caden pitched two and a third innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 5. John Shahrdar also pitched two innings in relief for the Bears.

Both teams scattered 13 hits. Baton Rouge committed two errors compared to 1 for LSUE.

 

Bears Game Highlights 

Ethan Menard went 4 for 4 with 2 runs, 1 BB and 1 RBI 

Elliot Hebert went 1 for 5 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Tristan Frederick went 3 for 5 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 1 double

Nick Carriere went 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs 

Jonas LeBourgeois had 1 RBI

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 4 with 1 BB and 1 run

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 1 with 1 run

 

With the victory the Bengals improve to 30-13, while the Bears fall to 23-27 on the season. The Bears and the Bengals would split this weekend series with each team winning two game. Overall, for the year in their nine meetings the Bengals won five and the Bears won four.

 

The Bears will return to action Saturday April 23 as they host conference opponents the Delgado Dolphins in a three-game series. Saturday will be a doubleheader starting at 2 pm and Sunday April 24 will be a single nine inning game.
