Bears and Bengals split the day

The Baton Rouge Bears and the LSUE Bengals shifted their weekend series with a pair of games, today in the Capital City. The Bears and the Bengals split the day, with the Bengals winning game one 11-9 and the Bears winning game two 11-1 in eight innings.

Game One

A late comeback by the Bears would fall short as the Bengals would win game one 11-9.

The LSUE Bengals would jump out the gates on fire at the plate as they would score six runs, in the first inning, to take an early lead over the Baton Rouge Bears. The Bears would get three of those runs back via a three run homer by Ethan Menard to left center field, in the bottom of the first. After one inning, the Bengals led 6-3. The Bears would continue to scratch as they would score three runs, in the third inning to tie, the game at six. Elliot Hebert would hit a two run homer to left field. Tristan Frederick would single driving in Lane Hutchinson, who reached on a walk. The Bengals would retake the lead with two runs, in the fourth inning;8-6. The Bears would scratch across a run,in the bottom of the fourth,but still trailed by one;8-7. Jacob Dunn would lead off with an infield bunt single and he would score on a Elliot Hebert ground out. The Bengals would extend their lead with two runs, in the fifth inning; 10-7. The Bengals would tact on another run, in the sixth inning, to extend their lead to 11-7. The Bears would rally, in the seventh inning,  with back to back solo homer by Elliot Hebert and Lane Hutchinson but it was not enough as the Bengals would defeat the Bears 11 to 7, in game one.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Gavin pitched five innings allowing 10 runs on 14 hits while striking out 2. Grant Landry (2.0 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. Clack started on the mound for the Bengals. He pitched three and one third innings allowing 7 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3. 

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 15 to 12. The Bears committed four errors compared to one for the Bengals.

Game One Bears Highlights 

Elliot Hebert went 3 for 4 with 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 3 with 3 runs, 2 RBIs, 1 BB and 1 HR

Ethan Menard went 2 for 4 with 1 run, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 3

Braxton Gallet went 2 for 4 with 1 run

Nick Carriere went 1 for 3

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3 with 1 run.

 

GameTwo:

In game two, the Bears would take an early lead and the Bengals would struggle offensively thus the Bears would win game two 11-1, in eight innings.

The Bears would get on the board first with two runs, in the first innings. Braxton Gallet would single and score on a Lane Hutchinson double. Hutchinson would score on an Ethan Menard single. The Bears would continue their hot hitting, in the third inning, when they would plate five runs. Blaise Foote would start things off with a double to right field. Ethan Menard and Gage Breithaupt would both walk to load the bases. Nick Carriere would hit a double scoring Foote and Menard. Jacob Dunn would follow with a single up the middle scoring Breithaupt and Carriere. Braxton Gallet would be hit by a pitch. Elliot Hebert would single up the middle scoring Dunn for the Bears fifth run of the frame. After three innings, the Bears led 7 to 0 over the Bengals. The Bengals would get on the board, in the fourth inning, via a solo homer by LeJune. After four innings the Bears led 7-1.  The Bears would tact on three more runs to their lead, in the sixth inning;10-1.  Elliot Hebert would lead off with a infield single and advance to second on a Bengal's throwing error. Lane Hutchinson would follow with a double to left field driving in Hebert. Blaise Foote, who reached on a walk, would score on a wild pitch. On that same play, Tristan Frederick, who reached on a fielder's choice, would score right behind Foote on the Bengals wild pitch.  Ethan Prescott would pitch a gem of a ball game for the Bears allowing only one run on four hits in seven innings of work. Luke Evans would shut down the Bengals, in the eighth inning,  with two strikeouts and a line out.  Ethan Menard would lead off the eighth  inning for the Bears and hit a solo homer to help the Bears end the game early via the 10 run rule. The Bears would rebound to win game two 11-1 over the Bengals.

 

Ethan Prescott started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Prescott pitched seven innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 2. Luke Evans pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Bears. Vienne started on the mound for the Bengals and took the loss. He pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits while striking out 3.

Baton Rouge outhit LSUE 11 to 4. The Bengals committed one error in the ball game.

Game Two Bears Highlights 

Ethan Menard went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 2 BB and 1 HR

Elliot Hebert went 3 for 5 with 1 run, and 1 RBI 

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 5 with 1 run and 2 RBIs 

Blaise Foote went 1 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 BB

Nick Carriere went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs 

Jacob Dunn went  1 for 3 with 1 run , 2 RBIs and 1BB

 

With the split the Bears improve to 23-26, while the Bengals improve to 29-13 on the season.

The Bears and Bengals will conclude this four game series with a 3 pm game back on the Cajun Prairie in Eunice tomorrow Saturday April 16, 2022.
