Bears Baseball sweep Nunez Pelicans

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Nunez Pelicans met this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field to start a three game conference series. Bears sweep the Pelicans, in the opening round games, of this weekend conference series. The Bears comeback with a huge sixth inning to win game one 6-1. The Bears would again score late, this time in the fifth inning to win game two 7-1.

Game one

The comeback Bears would do it again, as they, would rally, in the sixth inning, scoring six runs to win game one 6-1 over the Nunez Pelicans.

Nunez Pelicans would get on the board first with a run, in the first inning. The Bears would put two runners on in the bottom of the first inning, but a great diving catch by the Pelicans right fileder ends the Bears threat. After one inning, the Pelicans led 1-0. The Bears would tie the game, in the sixth inning, when Braxton Gallet would lead off with a double to left field and score on an Elliot Hebert  single up the middle. The Bears bats would then come alive as they would score six runs, in the frame, to take a 6-1 lead over the Pelicans. Nick Carriere would lay down a bunt in which the Pelican's pitcher fields but overthrows second, thus the Bears would have runners at the corners. Zach Martin would hit an infield single scoring Hebert for the go ahead run. Jacob Dunn would hit a double to left field driving in Carriere and Martin. Tristan Frederick would hit a single up the middle scoring Guilbeau, who reached by being hit by the pitch. Braxton Gallet would get his second hit of the inning driving in Dunn for the Bears sixth run of the inning. After six inning, the Bears led 6-1. Gavin Green would secure the complete game victory with three fly outs in the seventh inning. The Bears win game one 6-1.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears to earn the victory. Gavin pitched seven innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 4. Levi Brewster started on the mound for the Pelicans and took the loss. He pitched five innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. J. Brasseaux pitched one inning in relief for the Pelicans.

Baton Rouge outhit. Nunez 7 to 3. Nunez committed three errors compared to 2 for Baton Rouge.

 

Game One Bears Highlights 

Braxton Gallet went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 4

Elliot Hebert went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 3

Zach Martin had 1 RBI 

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1 BB and 2 RBIs

Game Two

A combination of great pitching and a seven run fifth inning propels the Bears to a 7-1 game two victory over the Nunez Pelicans.

The first four inning of today's ball game was a pitching duel between Bear's pitcher Teddy Webb and Pelican's pitcher Payton Cooper. The Bears would finally breakthrough, in the fifth inning, with seven runs. The Bears would bat around in the inning. Lane Hutchinson would lead off with a single to left field and Nick Carriere would follow with a double off the right field wall. Jacob Dunn would single up the middle, driving in Hutchinson for the Bears first run of the game. William Dunn would lay down a sacrifice bunt scoring Carriere. Tristan Frederick would walk and Elliot Hebert would hit an infield single to load the bases. Braxton Gallet would draw a walk scoring Dunn. Gage Breithaupt would join the Bears hit parade with a single passed a diving first basemen scoring two more runs. Ethan Menard would hit a deep fly ball to left field, scoring Gallet, who tagged on the catch. Lane Hutchinson, who started off the inning, would hit a triple driving in Breithaupt, but he would get called out at the plate trying to turn it into a inside the park home run. After five innings, the Bears led 7-0. The Pelicans would scratch across a run, in the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Bears would win game two 7-1.

Teddy Webb started on the mound for the Bears. Teddy pitched six innings allowing 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 7. Luke Evans pitched in an inning in relief for the Bears. Payton Cooper started on the mound for the Pelicans and took the loss for the Pels. He pitched four innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2.

Baton Rouge outhit Nunez 10 to 3. Both teams committed two errors in the ball game.

Game Two Bears Highlights

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 2 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Jacob Dunn went 3 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI 

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs 

Elliot Hebert went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 run

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 3 with 1BB, 1 run and 1RBI

Nick Carriere went 1 for 3 with 1 run

William Dunn went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI


With the pair of victories, the Bears improve to 21-24, 2-3 in conference play, while the Pelicans fall to 21-14, 0-5 in conference play.

 

These two teams will meet tomorrow Sunday April 10 at 2 pm to conclude this weekend series. The game will be played at Pete Goldsby Field.
