Bears Walk It Off over #3 Pearl River Wildcats

The Baton Rouge Bears and the #3 Pearl River Wildcats met under the Friday night lights at Pete Goldsby field in a rematch of an earlier season matchup. The Bears would jump out to an early lead, relinquish that lead to a high-powered offense of the Wildcats and rally to walk off with a 9-8 victory.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with three runs, in the second inning. The Bears would take advantage of some Wildcats errors and inconsistent pitching to score those runs. Tristan Frederick, who walked, would score on a pass ball. Braxton Gallet, who reached on an error, would score on a sac bunt by Jacob Dunn. Blaise Foote would hit a triple driving in the Bears third run of the frame. After two innings, the Bears led 3-0.  The Bears would add two more runs to their lead, in the fourth inning, when Lane Hutchinson would hit a double to centerfield driving in two runs. After four innings, the Bears led 5-0. In the fifth inning, the Bears would scratch across another run to take a 6-0 lead. Gavin Green, for the Bears, was dealing. He kept the high-powered offense of the Wildcats under wraps in the first five innings.  In the sixth inning, the Wildcats would score two runs but still trailed 6-2. After a pitching change in the seventh for the Bears, the Pearl River Wildcats offense found some life scoring six runs, in the inning, to take an 8- 6 lead over the Bears. The Bears would not go away quietly as they would tie the game at 8 with a two RBI single by Nick Carriere, in the ninth inning. Carriere would advance to second on a wild pitch and score the game winning  run when Tristan Frederick would hit a fly ball single to centerfield. The Bears would walk off with the 9-8 victory over the #3 Pearl River Wildcats under the lights at Pete Goldsby Field.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears. Gavin pitched six innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6. Mason Long earned the victory for the Bears. Mason pitched one inning allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. Drew Blanchard, Case Roark, and John Shahrdar pitched in relief for the Bears. 

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 6. Pearl River committed three errors compared to one for Baton Rouge.

Bears Game Highlights:

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 4 with 1 run, 1 BB, 1 RBI and the game winning hit

Nick Carriere went 2 for 5 with 1 run and 2 RBIs 

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 2 runs, 1 RBI and 2 BB

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs

Jacob Dunn at 1 RBI

 

With the victory the Baton Rouge Bears improve to 17-18 while the Pearl River Wildcats fall to 14-5 on the season.

The Bears will travel down I-10 to the Cajun Prairie this Sunday March 20 to face the #1 LSUE Bengals in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm at Bengals Stadium.
