Bears Baseball sweep Indian Hills at Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Indian Hills Warriors took a day off from their four-game series yesterday due to the weather conditions in the Baton Rouge area. They resumed their series today at Pete Goldsby Field.  The Bears would sweep the Warriors in today's doubleheader. The Bears would jump out early in game one and hold off a Warriors' rally to earn the 8-4 victory. In game two, the Bears would fall behind, tie the game, and then walk off with a 3-2 victory.

Game One

The Baton Rouge Bears bats came alive early, and they took advantage of some Indian Hills defensive miscues to win game one 8 to 4.

The Bears would score first as they would send eight Bears to the plate in the first inning. They would score four runs to take the early lead. Ethan Menard would lead off the inning with a double to left field. Tristan's Frederick would walk and Lane Hutchinson would hit a double to centerfield scoring Menard. Alex Guilbeau would reach on a Warriors' error and two Bears would score on the play. Nick Carriere would hit an infield ground out but Foote, who reached on a walk, would score on the play. The Bears would add a run to their lead, in the second inning, when Britt Jordan would lead off with a single and score on an error by the Warrior's pitcher. After two innings, the Bears led 5-0. Indian Hills would get on the board, in the fourth, with a run. The Bears would add three insurance runs, in the fourth inning. Ethan Menard would hit an RBI triple, Tristan Frederick would reach on a bunt and error by the Warrior's pitcher which would score Menard. Frederick would score on a sacrifice by Blaise Foote. Indian Hills would not go away as they would add a run, in the fifth, and two runs, in the sixth, but it was not enough as the Baton Rouge Bears would win game one 8-4.

Teddy Webb started on the mound for the Bears. Teddy pitched five innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 5. Grant Landry and Caden Akana pitched in relief for the Bears. Douglas Rojas took the loss for the Warriors. He pitched one inning allowing 4 runs on 2 hits while striking out 1.

Both teams scattered five hits in the ball game. The Warriors committed three errors compared to one for the Bears.

Game One Bears Highlights:

Ethan Menard went 2 for 3 with 2 runs, 1BB, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 RBI

Tristan Frederick had 2 runs and 2 BB

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 1 with 1 run, 1 double, 1 HBP and 1 RBI 

Blaise Foote had 1 run and 1 RBI 

Alex Guilbeau had 2 RBIs 

Nick Carriere had 1 RBI

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3

Britt Jordan went 1 for 1 with 1 BB and 2 runs

 

Game Two

The Baton Rouge Bears walk off with a 3-2, game two victory, via a pinch hit two RBI single by Britt Jordan.

Indian Hills would score first with a run, in the third inning. The Bears would tie the game with a run, in the fourth inning. Lane Hutchinson would hit a double and Gage Breithaupt would follow with a single to put runners on the corners for the Bears. Tristan Frederick would follow with a single to right field scoring Hutchinson. After four innings, the game was tied at one. Indian Hills would retake the lead with a run in the sixth inning.  In the seventh inning, the Bears would plate two runs to come from behind for the 3-2 walk off victory. Tristan Frederick would lead off the inning with a single to left field. Zach Martin would follow and reach on an error by the Warrior's pitcher. Jacob Dunn would be next and he would hit a bunt single to load the bases. Britt Jordan would pinch hit and hit a line drive single up the middle scoring Frederick and Martin for the winning runs.

Case Roark earned the victory in relief for the Bears. Case pitched two innings allowing 0 runs on 0 hits while striking 3. Drew Blanchard started on the mound for the Bears. Drew pitched five innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 7. Jack Payne took the loss for the Warriors. 

Baton Rouge outhit Indian Hills 9 to 4. The Bears committed three errors compared to one for the Warriors.

Game Two Bears Highlights

Britt Jordan went 1 for 1 with the game winning 2 RBIs

Ethan Menard went 1 for 3

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 double

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3

Tristan Frederick went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Zach Martin scored the winning run 

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3

Grant Landry went 1 for 2

 

With the sweep Baton Rouge improves to 16-18, while Indian Hills falls to 5-4 on the season.

 

The Bears will be back in action next Friday March 18 as they take on LSUE Bengals at 12 pm and the Pearl River Wildcats at 6 pm. Both games will be played at Pete Goldsby Field.
