Bears fall to Bobcats at Pete Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Jones College Bobcats met this afternoon to conclude their four-game series at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bobcats would sweep the Bears, on the day, with a 3-1 extra innings game one victory and a 11-3 game two victory. Jones would take 3 out of 4 games from Baton Rouge this season.

Game One

For the most part game was a pitching duel with neither team finding their stroke at the plate till late in the ball game. Jones would score first with a run, in the fourth.  The Bears would rally, in the seventh inning, to score a run and force extra innings. In the seventh, Blaise Foote would lead off with a double to right field. Foote would be moved over to third on a ground out by Braxton Gallet. Foote would score on a sacrifice by Nick Carriere to tie the game at one.  In the eighth inning, Jones would score two runs, and the Bears comeback would fall short as Jones College would defeat Baton Rouge 3 to 1, in game one of today's doubleheader.

Dalton Tanner earned the victory for Jones College. He pitched eight innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 6. Caden Akana started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Caden pitched eight innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 7.

Jones College outhit Baton Rouge 7 to 4. Neither team committed an error in the ballgame.

Game One Bears Highlights:

Trey Webb went 1 for 4

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Alex Guilbeau went 1 for 2

Nick Carriere had 1 RBI

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3

 

Game Two

Baton Rouge Bears rally to tie the game but a big inning by Jones College was too much as the Bears fall 11 to 3 in the nightcap of today's doubleheader.

Jones College would get on the board first with a two-run homer by B. Garrity, in the first inning. The Bobcats would add another run, in the second, to take a 3-0 lead over the Bears. The Bears would tie the game, in the bottom of the second inning, when they would plate three runs. Gage Breithaupt led off the inning with a single. Nick Carriere would follow and be hit by a pitch. William Dunn would hit a sacrifice bunt moving the runners to second and third. Tristan Frederick would hit a 2 RBI triple. Britt Jordan would single to left field driving in Frederick for the Bears third run in the frame.  The Bobcats would capitalize on some Bears' defensive miscues, in the third inning, to score six runs to take a commanding 9-3 lead. The Bears struggled to make an adjustment at the plate only scattering six hits in the ball game. Jones College would add two more runs, in seventh, via a homerun by B. Garrity to seal the 11-3 game two victory.

Andrew Nix earned the victory for the Bobcats.  He pitched 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out four, Blaise Foote started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Blaise pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 9 runs on 10 hits.  Case Roark, Grant Landry, and Luke Evans pitched in relief for the Bears.

Jones College out hit Baton Rouge 13 to 6. The Bears committed five errors in the ball game.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Nick Carriere went 1 for 2 with 1 run

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Caden Akana went 1 for 1

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 1

Britt Jordan went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI

 

With the victories Jones College Bobcats improve to 13-3 while Baton Rouge Bears fall to 14-16 on the season.

 

The Bears will face a quick turnaround when they face Indian Hills Warriors in a doubleheader on Thursday March 10 at 10 am at Southeastern University in Hammond.
