Bears drop nightcap to East Central Warriors

After defeating the Lake Land Lakers, in game one, of today's doubleheader the Baton Rouge Bears would square off with the host school, East Central Warriors.  The Bears fell behind early and could not come back as the East Central Warriors win 8-2.

East Central would strike first with a run, in the first inning. The Warriors would tact on two more runs, in the third inning, to take a 3-0 lead over the Bears. For the next three inning, it was a pitching duel between Willis and Blanchard.  Both pitchers kept the other team out of sync at the plate.  The Bears would find their stroke, at the plate, in the seventh inning as they would score 2 runs to close within one;3-2. The Bears would load the bases with back to back to back singles by Ethan Menard, Blaise Foote and Lane Hutchinson. Nick Carriere would ground into a fielder's choice but Menard would score on the play. Trey Webb would follow with a single up the middle scoring Hutchinson. The Warriors would respond with two runs of their own in the seventh inning. After seven innings, the Warriors led 5-2. East Central would add three runs, in the eighth, to take an 8-2 lead. The Bears would go down in order in the ninth thus falling to the Warriors 8-2.

Mason Willis earned the victory for the Warriors. He pitched six and a third innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8. Drew Blanchard started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Drew pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6. Caden Akana and Gavin Green pitched in relief for the Bears.

East Central outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 6. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors in the ball game.

Bears Game Highlights:

Braden Keen went 1 for 4

Ethan Menard went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Nick Carriere went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Trey Webb went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

 

With the victory the Warriors improve to 8-2, while the Bears fall to 10-11 on the season.

 

The Bears will be at home this Monday February 28 as they host the Hinds Community College Eagles in a doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
