Bears and Wolves split the doubleheader at Goldsby

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves squared off this afternoon, in a doubleheader, at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears and the Wolves would split the day, with the Wolves winning game one 12-4 and the Bears walking off with the nightcap 8 to 7.

Game One:

The Co-Lin Wolves would take an early lead, in which, the Bears could not recover from thus the Bears fall in game one 12 to 4.

The Wolves would get on the board first with 2 runs, in the first inning.  In the second inning, the Wolves would add 4 more runs, 3 of those runs via a homerun by G. Brogden. The Bears would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the second, when Braxton Gallet would lead off with a homer to left field. After two innings, the Wolves led 6-1. Co-Lin would strike again, in the fifth inning, with 2 more runs to extend their lead to 8-1. In the sixth inning, the Wolves would get a 3-run homer from K. Bizot to extend their lead to 11-1. The Bears would find some life, in the sixth inning, as they would score three runs. Braden Keen would lead off with a pinch hit single up the middle and score on a Tristan Frederick line drive single to right field. Zach Martin would follow with a double to left field scoring Frederick. Nick Carriere would single to left field scoring Martin. After six, the Wolves led 11-4.  Co-Lin would add a run, in the seventh, and they would shut down the Bears, in the bottom of the seventh, to secure the 12-4 game one victory.

John Shahrdar started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. John pitched two innings allowing 6 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3. Kade May earned the victory for the Wolves. He pitched five and one-thirds innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits while striking out 1. Case Roark and Alex Norris pitched in relief for the Bears.

Copiah Lincoln outhit Baton Rouge 12 to 9. Copiah Lincoln committed 2 errors in the ball game compared to 1 for Baton Rouge.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Ethan Menard went 1 for 4

Braden Keen went 2 for 2 with 1 run

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 4

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 2 with1 run, 1 RBI and 1HR

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 1 with1 run and 1 RBI

Zach Martin went 1 for 1 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Nick Carriere went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

 

Game Two:

Game two was a back-and-forth battle between the two ball clubs with the Bears taking the last shot and getting the dramatic walk off 8-7 victory.

Copiah Lincoln would get on the board first with 2 runs, in the first inning. The Bears would respond and tie the game at 2, in the bottom of the first. Jacob Dunn would walk and score on an Ethan Menard double. Menard would advance to third on a Blaise Foote single and score when he would steal home. The Bears would add two runs, in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead. Nick Carriere would lead off with a single to left field, he would steal second and advance to third on a Tristan Frederick walk. Carriere would score on a Braden Keen sac fly to centerfield.  The Bears would score their second run of the inning on a bases load walk. The Wolves would tie the game, in the third inning, with 2 runs. The Wolves would then take the lead;7-4 with three runs in the fourth inning.  The Bears would scratch across a run, in the bottom of the fourth, to inch closer; 7-5. Ethan Menard would single scoring Braden Keen would reach on an infield error. The Bears would come within one run in the sixth: 7-6. Tristan Frederick would hit a double and score on a Braden Keen single. The Bears would load the bases but a double play by the Wolves would end their threat. In the seventh inning, the Bears would continue to fight and with 2 outs, Tristan Fredrick would hit line drive off the wall in left center to score two runs and give the Bears the walk off game two victory.

Sean Burkhead earned the victory for the Bears. Sean pitched three innings allowing 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 7. Blaise Foote started on the mound for the Bears. Blaise pitched four innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. Tanner Watts would take the loss for the Wolves. He pitched one and one third innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 1.

Baton Rouge outhit Co-Lin 9 to 5. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors compared to 1 for Co-Lin.

Game Two Bears Highlights:

Tristan Frederick went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBI- including game winning double

Braden Keen went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Ethan Menard went 2 for 2 with 1 run, 2 RBIs and 2 BB

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Zach Martin went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Nick Carriere went 1 for 4 with 1 run

 

With the split the Bears improve to 9-10, while the Wolves improve to 5-6 on the season.

 

The Bears will return to action this Saturday February 26 as they travel to Decatur Mississippi to take on Lake Land College and East Central Community College.
